Copilot missing in 23H2

Recently bought a used Surface Go 2 and installed 23H2 from downloaded ms recovery drive. I've done all windows updates and there's no copilot. Checked in taskbar settings and it's not there. Neither is there either a mail or outlook app on the task bar. (Although the mail app is in the start menu list). One of the apps installed is Microsost 365 apps for enterprise. Which I tried to uninstall earlier and it didn't want to uninstall so just left it.

In the past, I had CoPilot disappear. (Not recently.)

I re-installed it from the Microsoft Store. I had to pin it to the taskbar after.

Open search Win+S, type CoPilot?

CoPilot is an App now, so just get it from the Microsoft Store.

But yeah, there was a bug for ages in 23H2 where the CoPilot icon disappeared from the Taskbar, is your 23H2 up to date in Windows Update? If so, no bug. Or shouldn’t be a bug.

23H2 reaches EoL on November 11, 2025. Is it not offering the 24H2 Feature Update in Windows Update? The upgrade to 24H2 should include CoPilot.

Thanks. Wow that's a lot to look at! What I've tried so far:

Group policy editor to disable copilot - changed from Configured to Disabled (ie disable disabling) and restarted. No difference. So changed it back again. Went to regedit - it says copilot is disabled. So I changed the D word from 0 to 1. Still no difference.

So is it ok just to install it from the ms store, if it's already installed and just disabled?

Thanks yes - I just decided to keep it on 23H2 for now. But ........... 23H2 is supposed to include copilot anyway isn't it?

Go to your Taskbar settings and make sure Show CoPilot is toggled on.

To show or hide taskbar apps (icons) in Windows, navigate to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. Then, under "Notification area," you can choose which icons appear on the taskbar by toggling them "On" or "Off". You can also manage icons

Thanks - it's not there - not in taskbar settings. Windows key and C doesn't open it either.

If you go to Microsoft Store and search for CoPilot, it’s either going to say “Install” or “Open”
You don’t need to mess in Group Policies.

If it’s installed, you should be able to add it to your Taskbar.
