“WdFilter.sys” is a system file developed by Microsoft and related to the Windows Defender Mini-Filter Driver. This error occurs in the system due to the wdfilter driver being corrupt or a corrupt display driver, more than likely the last one. If it were me, I would attempt to boot into safe mode with networking, download the correct graphics driver, and install it to see if it resolves the problem. Boot to Safe Mode in Windows 11 Tutorial

Try booting into safe mode with networking and do the following:

If you have Nvidia/AMD graphics download DDU Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.5.0. Run it and it will completely uninstall your graphics driver. If you have Intel graphics, go to device manager, expand Display Adapter, right click on your graphics and select uninstall. Check the box that says remove driver. Restart. Run Windows update which may install the driver automatically. If not you will need to find the appropriate driver yourself.

You did not complete your system specs so I cannot assist you in locating the correct driver.

When were you last able to boot to windows?

When the computer is powered on what do you see and hear?

Please take pictures and post images or share links into this thread.

What are the status of the important files?
a) backed up files to another drive or the cloud
b) backed up images to another drive or the cloud
c) no backed up files or images, important files need to be backed up
d) no backed up files or images, there are no important files that need to be backed up

hi Zbook,
the problem appeared a few days ago, two or three days ago.
I had no problems starting windows before.

When I turn on the pc I see the writing "asus", then the classic windows startup animation and then the blue screen with the error and I hear some noise from the fans and that's it.

I get the possibility with F1 to try to restore but I have tried everything and the only thing that allows me to start is to delete the file in question. I used cmd window.

The pc restarts, the file is recreated, but it is extremely slow with the cpu very busy than usual.

If I restart it I have the problem again.
I also tried a chkdsk c: /F and a sfc /scannow but there is no problem.

I have no operating system backups or restore points (they never worked for me on this laptop).
The user files are on another partition thankfully.

the only thing to backup are the open tabs and the favorites of edge and firefox and the list of installed applications and configurations of some applications.

It appears you are running 11 on an unsupported cpu. You could try a reset but I can not say for certain it would work on unsupported hardware as it would not pass all the checks. It may require a clean install. Though there are procedures on this forum for installing 11 on unsupported hardware, most members will not suggest that you do so. I do feel comfortable telling you how to backup FF and Edge, though, or advising a clean install of Windows 10.

Since you are able to start in safe mode, backup your favorites in Edge and FF (If you are syncing each of these, you don't even have to do that because they would resync themselves).
----------------------------------
Manually Backup Profiles in Edge and Firefox
For Firefox, the file location is "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles". Simply copy that, throw it on a flash drive, and then move it to the same location on the new install.

For Edge, open favorites, click 3 dots, and export to the flash drive.
-------------------------------------
Backup your data partition for insurance using recovery media for any one of the free programs available. Most people here use Macrium but Aoemi is good, too.
----------------------------------
I have heard of system restore not working, but not restoring a backup from a reliable backup application. Had you had a backup now, you could have your system up and running in 15 minutes.

If there were important files they could be backed up.

If there are no important files then test the drive. If the drive passes then clean install.

glasstuker,

could you guide me step by step with the backup?

1) I would like to have the "backup" of the open tabs (which are many) of both "edge" and "firefox".

1a) I don't know how syncing works. How should I do?

2) The same for installed favorites and extensions and their configurations. (edge and firefox)

3) Also I have many applications installed, and my nephew's games. For example minecraft how do i backup it?

4) Can the application configurations be easily saved and then restored?

5) Is the list of installed applications easily exportable?

6) Wouldn't it be easier to do this procedure: Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

For the installation on my hardware I used the procedure described by microsoft: Ways to install Windows 11

@zbook can I backup to a USB stick using the "create system image" control panel backup procedure for windows7?

do I need another bootable key? how do you advise me to do it?

Google is your friend.

6) Wouldn't it be easier to do this procedure: Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial Yes, that's the way to go if you can boot into Windows in normal mode and can make the registry changes in your article Ways to install Windows 11 , you should be able to do a repair install, ie: inplace upgrade. If that does not work and you have to resort ot a clean install, you need to be prepared.

Could you guide me step by step with the backup? It depends on what program you use to backup with..

General Step by step with screenshots here for making FULL SYSTEM IMAGE image using Macrium Free Create drive images with Macrium Reflect to easily restore a PC

You must make recovery media on a flash drive from within the software in order to be able to restore an image. This recovery media can also be used to make a backup offline in a computer that will not boot. Therefore, if your computer will not boot in normal mode, Macrium can be installed on another machine, make your recovery media there, then boot the troublesome computer from the recovery media and make your backup. The same recovery media is used to restore the entire system image or a partition within the image. (In your case this would be your data partition)
Note: To restore ONLY files and folders within the image after a clean install, you can install Macrium, browse the backup in explorer, and copy and paste files/folders from the backup into a newly formatted machine.

1) I would like to have the "backup" of the open tabs (which are many) of both "edge" and "firefox".
How do I backup a session (all the open tabs) so that it can be reloaded after a computer factory reset? | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

1a) I don't know how syncing works. How should I do?
You have to be logged into Edge with a MS account and syncing has to be turned on.
Edge - Sign in to sync Microsoft Edge across devices

to sync firefox you first need a firefox account and sign in
  1. Open the menu in the top right of Firefox and select “Sign in to Sync”.
  2. Click Get started in the tab that opens.
  3. Enter an email address and password to “Create a Firefox Account.”
  4. Click Next to get a verification sent to your email.
After you check your email and click the verification link, Firefox will start automatically syncing in the background.

2) The same for installed favorites and extensions and their configurations. (edge and firefox) Both have import and export features.

3) Also I have many applications installed, and my nephew's games. For example minecraft how do i backup it? You can't. All apps will need to be reinstalled from their source after a clean install.

4) Can the application configurations be easily saved and then restored? No, only if an application has an export and import settings options within the application.

5) Is the list of installed applications easily exportable?7 Ways To Generate a List of Installed Programs in Windows

@zbook can I backup to a USB stick using the "create system image" control panel backup procedure for windows7? That method is not advisable. Use Macrium or another reputable backup solution

You must understand something here. If a repair install does not fix your problem and you have to resort to a clean install, in your particular case, you are interested in recovering only your data partition since your OS is corrupted.
A clean install of Windows has to be done in contiguous unallocatted hard drive space. If your current data partition now resides at the end of the drive, this is not a problem. But if it's not, you will have to do some manual repartitioning. Without seeing a screenshot of your disk management screen, I can not advise what you will have to do to accomplish this if it becomes necessary.

I first downloaded the "Home" trial version and it gave me the problem, then I tried the "free" version and it gave me the same problem.

I tried a second time and it installed it for me.

I made the rescue disk and then the backup.

I found out where the problem was. :)

The system was in the "non-compact" state and a few days ago I put it in the "compact" state, then I did not restart for many days and I forgot.

The file was compacted, I tried to unpack it with "compact /U /EXE wdfilter.sys" and now it doesn't give me the blue screen.:)

The system starts up but is extremely slow, the cpu is almost always saturated at 50% at rest and any program I run brings it to 100% for a long time.

Now I'm getting ready to test the disk with the "seatools". And if all goes well I try an "in-place upgrade".

Guys, I sincerely thank you for your support, I will keep you updated.

If there were important files they could be backed up.

If there are no important files then test the drive. If the drive passes then clean install.

Run the Sea Tools long generic test > post a share link into this thread
I tried to start the seatools from the usb stick I created but the boot process hangs, maybe because it doesn't recognize the graphics card, but I don't know ...

Could you please tell me what partitions E, G, ,N are used for? They are almost at capacity. What is the one marked 'volume' with no drive letter? M is also at capacity and I am assuming that is your data partition. Yet, going by the red check-marks you do not show that you backed it up and it is the partition you most want to protect. That is one strange and messed up partitioning table. You have no place to grow your data partition,

in G: there are my "small" data (desktop, images, small download, documents, etc) , in E: there are data and an temporary backup of windows 10. In disk N: there are other data for my tests. In M: there are "huge" data. (but i don't have need to backup ie iso, video, big games, test virtual machine, etc).

In 'volume' with no drive letter there is windows 10

If the computer cannot boot Sea Tools:

a) try another flash drive
b) try other USB ports
c) make sure secure boot is off
c) make sure ultra fast boot is off
d) make sure that fast boot is off

See if it can boot Ubuntu and / or Memtest86.

Then if it becomes necessary to clean install , during the install process you would delete the first 3 partitions and install on unallocated space. It's good that all your other partitions are at the end of the disk. At some point, if you plan on adding very many new files, you will either have to delete some files on those 3 partitions that are almost at capacity or finagle with the partitioning. Good luck.
