Solved DDU run issue

I've found an issue with the latest version of DDU. V18.0.6.9. I had an issue about a week ago on a system I was working on. It's Asus Z490-E with an i9-10850k. I just have it sitting on a motherboard box to run. I have used it recently to text GPUs I have bought used. Anyway the last GPU was an Nvidia model however I needed to test an AMD GPU so attempted to run DDU to clear all the Nvidia stuff out. I would double click the exe, get the UAC notification and select next however DDU failed to actually run. I tried multiple times but it just wouldn't run. So I booted to Safe Mode just in case. Same thing. I finally gave up and installed the AMD GPU and tested it using the latest AMD Adrenalin driver. No issues I could tell.

Fast forward a few days and decided to give it another try with no discrete GPU installed and only using the intel iGPU. Still could not get it to run. So I begin looking at the guru3D forums for anything mentioned but nothing there.

So I begin trying to run DDU on multiple systems. Same thing happens with them all. I text my current daily driver a little while ago and it won't start either. I go to another current gen hardware build, Z790/i7-13700k, but it still only has v18.0.6.7 and it runs fine on that one.

As I'm sitting here on my daily driver typing this post I bring up DDU again and try it to type what I am seeing but this time it starts. WTF.

Anyway wonder if anyone else it seeing this issue with DDU version 18.0.6.9?

While there could possibly be a problem with the latest version of DDU, I doubt it.


Here are the guides I use, and they've worked for years...




DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get the DCH/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.
[See pics below]. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the AMD driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

All those DDU settings guides don't matter if it won't run. I just put the slightly older version(18.0.6.7) on a problem PC and it runs just fine. I put the latest version on the Z790 system mentioned in the OP and same problem.....it doesn't run while 18.0.6.7 runs fine.
I can try to run it with Task Manager running but nothing even shows up. Weird issue.

There's no specific need to run the absolute latest version.
Just use 18.0.6.7 or 18.0.6.8

I"ve never seen it happen... but it could just be a bad version.
Or maybe MS has changed something, and there's a conflict with this particular version.

If you haven't done so... maybe download 18.0.6.9 again, from the link I provided above.
It could be nothing more than a glitched download.



If you want, you can post your problem here, and Wagnard himself will see it...

Okay went and downloaded it again. Voila. Working fine. Must have had a bad download initially.

Many of us have just blocked the driver updates that sometimes come with Windows Updates.
A lot of times the drivers that come with Windows Updates will cause conflicts.
