Dell 7586 inspiron ssd upgrade ?

just bought a dell 7586 and would like to change main os drive to a 1tb, the drive inside is a toshibakb30zms512g nvme, what brand is faster then the existing drive.

If the Toshiba kbg30zms512g only uses 2 PCI-E lanes, and the motherboard supports the usual 4 lanes, then most NVME drives (4 lanes would be the usual) would be much faster.

The laptop appears to offer PCI-E 3.0, but PCI-E 4.0 drives would be compatible.

Crucial upgrades may not be the absolute fastest, but they guarantee compatibility.

Not sure whether getting a fast PCI-E 4.0 drive would be useful in a PCI-E 3.0 slot.

If it has low power usage, that'd be nice.

A PCI-E 4.0 drives should work in a PCI-E 3.0 slot. However, the bandwidth of PCI-E 3.0 is insufficient to max out a fast 4.0 drive.

(PCI-E 3.0, 8Gbps per lane, or 1GBps. 4 lanes, 4GBps. A fast 4.0 drive can do 7GBps sequential read. PCI-E 4.0 has nominally double the bandwidth of 3.0.)

It makes sense to buy at the price they are now ($49..) even if you don't use all the bandwidth.
It could be used latter on for something else or to install in a different PC/notebook even if it's
just as storage. It is still faster than a Gen 3.

It says $74.99 on your link unless you mean the small one.

If power draw or heat are of interest hynix p31 is in a different league from all the others. They are not cheap because they are in demand.
Even though it is "only" gen 3, they are often more expensive than the equivalent sized p44 from hynix other brand.

The 49 was for the P41 Plus.

I wasn't denying it. I just don't recall after a few weeks.

Pricing for M.2 drives seems to be all over the place. If the OP can get a PCI-E 4.0 for a tolerable price, then by all means...

Heck, go for PCI-E 5.0 if you can find one at an acceptable price. (Unlikely, at this time. Only a few nut cases have them now. [See my system 1.])

The T700 was dirt cheap, compared to an RTX 4090.

Amazon had it on sale, a few months ago.
