Disabling Defender Firewall service breaks the network tray icon status

In Windows 11, when I disable windows defender firewall service, why is the network (ethernet) tray icon not changing when I enable/disable of the NIC card? Is there any way to get the network tray icon to reflect the the status of the NIC card while the windows firewall service is disabled? Thanks.
