Dropping files on to a running app on taskbar is not working

It's not possible to drop files on to a running app on taskbar
An example is dragging & dropping selected jpg files on to ACDSEE image basket
Another is dragging & dropping selected mkv files on to MKVToolNix Header editor
When the file is dragged and the mouse hovers over the running app on the taskbar you get a 'No entry' type icon so it is not possible to drop the files
It can be done by snapping File Explorer and the app and then dragging & dropping (not via the taskbar)
Any ideas?

Same for me in a post I made earlier on dropping photo on top of open Edge icon so it then pops up to let you add to this forum, worked in Win10

The Taskbar is no longer coupled to the Explorer process.

It was spotted recently that the Taskbar will run under it's own process...

For now, at least.

IMHO dropping a much used feature that has been available (and used by many) from XP up to W10 is a major mistake.

The quote in your link was that... 'On Feedback Hub, a Microsoft representative said Windows 11 currently does not support drag and drop, but the company "appreciates users feedback."'. That suggests to me that there is (perhaps) a chance that it will be added back in before RTM. I certainly hope so, I use it a lot.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I think MS is stuck between a rock and hard place right now..., they were eager to dish out this offering, but it met with more negative reception than they anticipated!
They've gotta make a few wise moves, and do it quickly!
