Solved EDGE started showing microsoft start for every new tab with a huge page of political news stories, cant change it

I want my old Bing start page back. How do I do it.
Every time I hit new tab, I see this stuff/

I used to see a noce background image of some nature scene! I did nothing to change this, it did it on its own

I try to change the setting under home, type www.bing.com and browser ignores it. Try to change it, hover over the save button and it gives me a red circle with a slash bar. it refuses to let me change my new tab page. If I click customize under new tab page,, it loads a new tab showing news and Microsoft start

When I open a new tab and manually address type in www.bing.com, I see my original new tab page as it used to look. Had to leave off bottom half of snip as it says image too large to upload here
When I hit the home button it will show bing.com page like below

I found a work around using an extension. so it now shows bing.com as my new tab page.
This issue is happening on another of my windows 11 pc too.
MS wants to force you onto a web page of their choice to see news and ads.

No it isn't, not if you know where to look. Click the cogwheel, top right of the page and scroll down the settings....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

It is still not the bing.com home page though. I like seeing that page as it shows my reward points

There is no way in hell you should have to install an extension just to open a desired page in a new background or foreground tab!!!

I did not try it.

Well ok I did try it and it uses an extension made by them

Funny thing it loaded Chrome, and I dont see the extension installed in edge or chrome. I don't think it installed or works.
