Browsers and Mail Enable or Disable Extensions in Microsoft Edge InPrivate Browsing on Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable allowing specific installed extensions in InPrivate browsing mode in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

InPrivate browsing is a private browsing mode in Microsoft Edge. No browsing history, download history, cookies and site data, nor form fill data are remembered. Microsoft Edge saves downloaded files and any new favorites created while browsing InPrivate. Microsoft Edge will automatically delete your browsing history, cookies, and site data, as well as passwords, addresses, and form data when you close all InPrivate windows. InPrivate browsing doesn’t keep you safer from malicious websites or provide additional ad blocking. Websites can still personalize content for you during your InPrivate browsing session because cookies and other site permissions aren’t deleted until you close all InPrivate windows.

Extensions, or add-ons, are simple tools that customize your browser experience and offer you more control in Microsoft Edge. Extensions are not allowed in InPrivate by default, but you can turn on allowing an installed extension in InPrivate while the extension is turned on.

Allowing an installed extension like Malwarebytes Browser Guard or Microsoft Defender Browser Protection to run in InPrivate mode can help provide safer browsing while in InPrivate mode in Edge.

If you enable allowing an extension in InPrivate, your browser history may still be recorded. Edge can't prevent the extension from saving your browser history, even in InPrivate mode.

Here's How:

1 Open Microsoft Edge.

2 Perform either action below: (see screenshot below)
  • Click/tap on the Extensions button on the toolbar.
  • Click/tap on the Setting and more (Alt+F) 3 dots button, and click/tap on Extensions.

5 Check (enable) or uncheck (default - disable) Allow in InPrivate for what you want for this extension. (see screenshot below)

You can click/tap on My extensions in the left pane or click/tap on the Back (arrow) button to go back to the Extensions page to enable or disable "Allow in InPrivate" for other extensions.
