This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable Show extracted files when complete from a ZIP by default for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Zipped (compressed) files take up less storage space and can be transferred to other computers more quickly than uncompressed files. In Windows, you work with zipped files and folders in the same way that you work with uncompressed files and folders. Combine several files into a single zipped folder to more easily share a group of files.

When you Extract all files from a ZIP, the files will be extracted to the selected folder. By default, it will also open this folder in File Explorer to show the extracted files when complete.

If wanted, you can set to have Show extracted files when complete checked (enabled) or unchecked (disabled) by default in the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog.

Extract in place immediately, by default, I'll open the folder myself when I need to.

You probably already know this, but 7-Zip (among other 3rd party archive managers) can accomplish this. 7-Zip is one of my must-have software, it's freeware, open source and highly customizable. Here I customized 7-Zip to only have the options that you are asking for, (just to demonstrate), and it took 10 seconds. Clicking on "Extract Here" will extract the archives content directly to where the archive is stored. "Extract to New folder\" will extract the archives content into a subdirectory called "New folder".

I usually only have the following options enabled: "Open archive", "Extract files..." and "Add to archive...". The "..." after "Extract files" and "Add to archive" means that if you do select those options, a dialog will follow. I have only these 3 options since I 100% of the time want to select where to extract files, or select what kind of archive I want to create or simply peek into an archive.
