I have an external hard drive that is more like a hard drive with an enclosure so it is almost the same thing. I transfer files from it to my chromebook.

Now if I was using a windows laptop with this hard drive, I know I could encrypt it with bitlocker. But I do not want to connect this hard to drive to windows machine and only use it when connected to chromebook. Based on that, what is my best option? I believe I asked this a while back but nobody has a response as there isn't a solution for this? Is there a way to encrypt this hard drive on my chromebook?

This has several possibilities, just ignore those that mention Windows/PC and Mac:

If I find some time later this week I may use my older Chromebook with a 200GB FAT32 drive in a USB case to learn more. I've never been in favor of encryption of drives as it doesn't take much to lose the key to open or decrypt them.
