Hi,

When I connect it using a USB type 3 port it get's disconnected after some hrs. Is this an issue with the Gigabyte adaptor OR the laptop's port.

I never get this issue when I connect using USB type C port, using a 12 in 1 adaptor, with other USB devices attached to it.

Hoping as always to hear from the experts.

Thanks.

The remedy I tried and works is unplugging the adaptor and inserting to the other USB type 3 port (now not available since have the KB mouse RF) for a few secs and than plugging in the earlier port, it starts to work.

2nd remedy found is a W11 reboot.

Both learnt by trial and error...

Is it likely that the USB 3 port get's occluded and needs flushing?

What's the make and model of the adapter piece? A lot of these USB-to-Ethernet devices use a Realtek chip ( RTL8153 / RTL8153B ), for which there exists a sperarate driver from Realtek and that you can download from here. If installing it doesn't solve your problem, try disabling USB Selective Suspend (under the advanced power settings of your power plan, or plans), and/or try disabling the "Allow the computer to disable this device to save power" checkbox in Device Manager, i.e. on the Power tab of the network adapter itself and/or that of the USB host controller(s) and/or of the internal/external USB hub device(s) that might be interfering with the network adapter component in some way that causes you to need to replug/reboot. If it still continues to fail, then maybe grab a different adapter piece. I use this one.

Thanks for your expert explanation, though being an old man new to W11 failed to understand a few.
These are the 2 adaptors, Gigabyte and Type C.

1. https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Adapter-Network-Gigabit-Windows/dp/B0874TYG5X
2. https://www.wiwu.com/WiWU-Alpha-12-...n-Card-Reader-Notebook-Dongle-pd45744764.html

None issues as posted with 2nd one but with the1st.

1. Can't locate USB selective suspend in power plans.
2. Attaching screenshots.

Appreciate your expert reply and apologize for my ignorance. BTW I feel that the adaptor might be faulty...

I think it's model is RJ45.
Where would be the USB selective suspend be in the power plan?
USB in device manager?

Thanks again!LAN 4.png

The Wiwu Alpha 12-in-1 probably uses a Via Labs chip (VL817) for its USB hub section, and, AFAIK this chip uses the built-in driver of Windows so you won't be able to find a downloadable driver for this specific chip on Via Labs official website, as this driver will probably be updated via Windows Update when/if needed. But the Wiwu also has a Gigabit Ethernet network adapter section, which is another chip. I searched, but was unable to find which one. When I plug my Uni hub into my laptop, a Realtek USB GbE Family Controller appears in there, similar to the PCIe one that is shown in this example screenshot:

8e9a6bc4-e195-4605-85bb-a5ba03ce897c

When this hub is unplugged from my laptop, in Device Manager this Realtek device is hidden. You should be able to see a similar device there, please let us know what it is called, and, when you right-click on it and choose Properties, in the window that appears next you can go to the Details tab. From the pulldown list of properties, select Hardware IDs. In the rectangle (screenshot below) you can press Ctrl + A to select all, then copy to clipboard either by pressing Ctrl + C or by pressing Ctrl + Insert. Paste in your reply so we can see it, or just post another screenshot.

Hadware IDs.png

Based on the Hardware ID string, it should be possible to find out exactly where to get the latest driver for it. I know that a lot of people don't recommend to update drivers excepting only if there are specific issues with the hardware, but I prefer to do the opposite. I.e., always update to the latest, and, if there are any problems after that, roll back to the previous version ( + shoot @ the manufacturer).

I suppose it is. When I run it on mine, the Repair option is already selected by default. You should be able to run the update installation procedure again, this time with the other device plugged into your computer. Both your devices use a Realtek USB Controller chip, but one device uses GbE Family, the other uses FE Family. So, you should be able to run the installer two times (one time with only the Wiwu Alpha 12-in-1 hub plugged in, one time with only the other device plugged in). After that, you should be able to see the newer version number in Device Manager for each device.

On a side note, both devices can be plugged in. When both are plugged in, they should appear in Device Manager as two separate Realtek USB Controllers, but Windows will default to the network adapter that has been assigned the highest Connection Priority. For more info about that particular subject, see:
