Hi,

1. Of the 3 which is better for a 2nd D Data SSD?

2. Is it possible to change positions with the stock. Making that Data and Evo as C primary?

Thanks.

Pro is the best.
Then EVO Plus
Then EVO

All else being just about equal, the main difference is...

Endurance permalink

For SSDs, Endurance is measured in Terabytes Written (TBW). It is a measure of the number of Terabytes that you can cumulatively write onto your SSD over its lifetime. Both 970 EVO and 970 EVO Plus have a Terabytes Written value of 600 TBW. For context, if you were to write 100 GB of data to your SSD every day, you would need 6000 days (roughly 16 years) to exhaust this volume! 970 Pro is measured at 1200 TBW, so just double the years.

Can Pro be swapped with the stock?

Thanks again.

If it was me... I'd make the storage drive, the Pro.
For the Windows drive, probably the EVO Plus.

The EVO Plus is the fastest, the Pro is the toughest.
IMO, the storage drive should be... as tough as can be.

That's the drive that will have your backups, your irreplaceable pictures/documents, etc.

While we're on the subject, I always sort the data on my partitions like this...

100-150GB = game installations, copies of installed programs, ISOs, texts, PDFs, list of tweaks, exported bookmarks, etc.
100-150GB = backups of my Windows install.
700-800GB = Movies, pics, music, youtubes, etc.

Set up like this, your Windows drive will have only 30-40GB and then backups and restores take about 2 minutes.
I did the same thing back on Win 7, and even on XP (no pic of that)...

Plain Evo?

Fine, I'll go with Pro or Plus as D Data drive.
Since have the stock.

I always buy The Pro version.
I`m looking for a 860 Pro 512GB and they are all gone.
I should have made the trip to Micro Center to get the last one they had.
I think Samsung is done with them.
Fortunately, I have 2 256GB 850`s and 2 256GB 860`s

@AddRAM, hope you're well.

A few questions;
1. Any significant difference between 860 and 970 Pro.

2. Repeat, same question, if I install 970 Plus as Active and Pro as backup, what do I do with the stock?

Thanks.

Yes, the 860 is a normal SSD, the 970 is a M.2
I have a 970 Pro 512GB back in it`s box sleeping.
Stock what ?

@AddRAM, hope you're well.

A few questions;
1. Any significant difference between 860 and 970 Pro.

2. Repeat, same question, if I install 970 Plus as Active and Pro as backup, what do I do with the stock?

Thanks.
The 970 is about 5-7x faster than the 860

The speeds for the 970s are in post #5. Here is my 860 EVO speed...

Image1.png

I do have two unused M.2 slots on my motherboard, but I'm old. This is fast enough for me.
I have a really fast USB stick though...

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
But you`ll never feel it, in day to day use.
I have a 980 Pro, and a 860 Pro on the Z170 now, I feel no difference, it only shows up if I do a benchmark.

Yes, the 860 is a normal SSD, the 970 is a M.2
I have a 970 Pro 512GB back in it`s box sleeping.
Stock what ?
Post the link.

Stock that came with the laptop.
I'm on my cell.

Thanks.

I get 560 and 530 with the 860 Pro, I`m going to pull the 980 Pro soon, it runs too hot. The Sabertooth Z170 is not M.2 friendly.

If 970 Pro runs hot, than would be wise to install plain or Plus on my laptop. Don't want it to heat up??

Thanks.

All M.2`s run warm. My X299 has a fan and heatsinks so the 980 Pro stays around 33F all the time.
Get the best SSD you can afford.

If you're desktop heats up, imagine what would happen to the laptop.
I'd probably go with a simple Evo 970. No plus or Pro.

Thanks.
