Pertinent Information
I'm on DEV Channel Windows 11 Build 22458.1000. I'm also on the Insider Beta Channel for Microsoft 365.
Both Desktop and Laptop have Build 22458.1000 installed. Microsoft 365 14517.20000 is installed on both systems.
I have a Toshiba external drive I can move back and forth between the two systems.
And the Problem
I have a Student Membership List created in Excel on the Toshiba External.
When the Toshiba External is attached to my desktop, and I want to refer to the Membership List, it has somehow been changed from Excel to Notepad! If I click on the "notepad file", of course, I get gibberish. However, I can "open with" Excel and everything is OK. I try saving the file as an Excel file, and it saves as a Notepad file. Yes, I've made sure that "save as" is on Excel.
I've changed the Toshiba External over to the Laptop, checked to see what my Membership file looks like, and it's perfectly fine and has been saved as an Excel file!
What I've Done to Solve the Situation
I have gone into Settings to be sure Excel is the default spreadsheet app, and yes, it is. I've checked Notepad and it doesn't have any "spreadsheet" default marked.
At this point, I'm about to pull my hair out! At first I thought it might be a Windows 11 bug, but I'm pretty sure that's not true.
As stated above, both systems have identical Build numbers for both Windows 11 and Microsoft 365. I've even gone so far as to check my Word files, and everything's fine on both systems.
Anyone have any suggestions?
