Hi folks
in EXCEL from the Files menu go to options and select these 2 items from show legacy data import wizards.

now restart excel data->get data
You'll see a new option legacy wizards with Microsoft query as an option.

Then it all works properly as before in EXCEL with all the formatting options etc etc.

Q.E.D -- but why Ms hide or obfuscate a useful function that people have been using regularly for at least over 20 years --- BONKERS.
Anyway problem now solved.
Cheers
