Hi,

Which M.2 PCIe NVME Gen 3x4 Class 35 2230 Solid State Drive has the fastest read/write for my Dell laptop Inspiron 5510.

Both brand and disk size.

One slot can hold only 2230 vs other 2230-2280.

Thanks.

I didn't realize that any NVME SSDs exist in the 2230 size. I see that they do. (Maybe not a Samsung Evo Plus, in that format.)

Sorry, I don't know what would be fastest. Here are a few: Newegg They tend not to run large. 512GB seems to be about the max. I come away with the impression that these are older models. The 2280 size is the commonest now.

Who told you that?

Dell claims that it can take one 2280 card, and one 2230 one. (On the other hand, the page says that they're PCI-E X2 drives, which is probably false.)

I wouldn't get too overly concerned about which is the absolute fastest. For the most part, all of the major players offerings are fairly close in performance, there may be some minor differences.

The reason I say not to get too carried away with that is that you will likely never notice the difference. In fact, Linus Tech Tips did a video in which they had people try to pick out the fastest SSD, and it turned out that in real life they couldn't even tell the difference between a slow SATA SSD and a really fast NVMe SSD. With that being the case, you are even less likely to notice the difference between 2 different NVMe SSDs.

My personal opinion is to focus on factors such as cost and durability (TBW rating). For example, for my laptop I went with a Seagate Firecuda NVMe SSD because they have stupid high endurance ratings (I thing mine is 1,600 TBW). Yes, that works out to 1.6 Petabytes.

The differences are minimal and there's no need to go for the fastest. Just have one that works.. and use the lappy

Hi,

Which M.2 PCIe NVME Gen 3x4 Class 35 2230 Solid State Drive has the fastest read/write for my Dell laptop Inspiron 5510.

Both brand and disk size.

One slot can hold only 2230 vs other 2230-2280.

Thanks.
Seriously.. why do you need the fastest drive for?? What are you doing that requires that much speed??

I've got to agree with Jeff here. What do you need that much speed for? You're going to see nominal differences in boot time and program access more than likely. Also, @hsehestedt makes a good point. Go with good, durable drive that has more rewrites for it.

"Bigger" drive? Are we talking about physical size, or drive capacity? (Some of the posts above appear to be arguing apples -vs- oranges)

Hi,

Which M.2 PCIe NVME Gen 3x4 Class 35 2230 Solid State Drive has the fastest read/write for my Dell laptop Inspiron 5510.

Both brand and disk size.

One slot can hold only 2230 vs other 2230-2280.

Thanks.
Depending on the configuration you ordered, you can install a 2280 SSD in your m.2 slot 1 according to the schematics (Inspiron 15 5510 Service Manual | Dell US).

This is a pretty fast drive:
SK hynix 2280 drive

If you're limited to the 2230 M.2, you're going to be severely limited in disk size and speed. They also seem to be pricier.
