Solved FAX failure in 22H2 - printer driver unrecognized

With the upgrade to Win 11, 22H2, the FAX printer is missing from the FAX app.

The FAX driver is installed under System32.

Under PRINTERS, the FAX printer is listed.

FAX has been set as the default printer.

When printing plain documents, the FAX printer is among the printer options.

The FAX troubleshooter has been run.

The FAX service is running.

Under SYSTEM | OPTIONAL FEATURES the FAX app has been uninstalled/reinstalled.

The FAX app does not list its printer driver.

How to get the FAX app to restore the FAX printer, and behave normally?

I want to make sure I understand so just to verify, is your device a PIXMA MP210? Can you Print to this device without issues?

The fax app MAY not be functioning properly because the app has not been updated since 7/2020. Yes, one would think if the app and fax driver worked before you upgraded that it should still work, but there is a possibility that some apps in the app store will have to be updated to work with 22H2. If that be so, then the developers of the app will have to re-code their product. That app was developed by Amplify Ventures. It is not even mentioned on their site, but their iFAX app is. This makes me believe they no longer support the older app.

You might try one of the other fax apps in the store. (like iFAX)Most are paid but a couple are free or gives a free trial period. However, none of them appear to have been updated recently either, but it would be worth a try to see if one would work with 22H2.

Also, that printer is over 10 years old and no longer supported by Canon. The latest printer driver was for Windows 8.1 so if it still prints OK you are lucky. If faxing is a deal breaker for you then you can still roll back to 22000 if you have not removed the windows.old folder.

Thanks for the response. This has nothing to do with the Pixma 210, which works fine with the out-of-date driver.

It's Windows built-in FAX and SCAN that's at issue (scan isn't used). Faxing works perfectly in the prior Windows 11 version. It's not a store app.

In the list above there should be a FAX driver listed. It shows up in most other apps' printing routines, but not in the FAX app.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. There is a store app named "Fax App" so I thought that was what you were referring to. I have never in my entire life used this feature so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants here. I checked around the web and there are a few complaints about fax and scan not working after the update, but since it's not a widely used feature, I wouldn't think there would be a lot of complaints yet.

This is just a thought, but I wonder if uninstalling your fax modem, restarting, and let Windows detect it again would make a difference.

Persistence pays. And my thanks for yours. The first suggestion from the Windows Club was the fix: Run As Administrator.

Ours is not to question - why now?

Each time there's an update, expect some settings or programs will be modified, removed or reverted to defaults. The price of progress. ^_^
