A FedEx driver dumped parcels into an Alabama ravine at least six times, resulting in the accumulation of more than 400 packages discovered last week, police say.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office has identified and questioned a driver in the incident, which was discovered last Wednesday, Sheriff Mark Moon said on the department's Facebook page.

Investigators "are looking at around 450 individual victims, some in Blount County some not," Moon said.

Many companies deliver packages for Fedex, and like Amazon, those 3rd party companies load their drivers up with unbelievable numbers of packages to deliver. Not making excuses, but I can see someone getting overwhelmed. With as much as they track their trucks/drivers, I'm surprised they took so long to identify him

Uh... did you read the article? It was FedEx, not a "3rd party company". FedEx.

And sorry, but if you don't want to spend all day delivering packages.... don't ask for the job!

I am aware it's Fedex, but many companies deliver for Fedex. They drive Fedex vehicles, and wear Fedex uniforms, but the drivers don't work for Fedex, they work for the 3rd party companies. And while there is no excuse for dumping packages, you should see what these companies put their employees through

It's not just Fedex and contractors. I've read news stories over the past few years, where the USPS, has done the same with mail.

At the end of the day, it's laziness and frustration - which is then taken out on customers.

Amazon is 100% this way. They own the warehouses, they decide who is allowed to be there, but the delivery drivers all work for 3rd party companies. if they don't like a driver, they say they can't come in the warehouse. They don't/they can't fire them, but what job is a driver going to do for the 3rd party company if they can't even come in the warehouse?

When people complain about work conditions, safety, etc. Amazon just says, "We have all these rules, and procedures in place, etc. And companies are supposed to meet them". But they put the onus on the 3rd party companies to meet unreasonable quotas, etc. So the companies put an unreasonable burden on their drivers or they will lose the routes to someone else who will treat their drivers that way. If there are complaints, Amazon say "We don't employ them". But they impose the rules that require the treatment. It's evil genius, we aren't responsible for how the 3rd party companies treat their employees, yet we make the rules.

Imagine a 10 hour day is standard...OK, if you willingly take that on, even though the hourly rate isn't high, you can make some money if you don't mind how long it takes. Now imagine each driver is given 300 packages to deliver each shift. I am not exaggerating, that is common on a daily basis, never mind the "busy seasons".

Do the math, if you work 10 hours straight, no break, no lunch, no bathroom breaks, that's 30 packages an hour...a package delivered every 2 minutes. Now there are indeed multiple package deliveries, either multiples to individuals, or drop offs at apartment buildings, etc. So assume "only" 210 stops. 210 stops in 10 hours...that's 2.86 minutes a stop. And mind, at apartment buildings, even if you can drop all packages in one place, you still have to get them out of the truck/van, haul them in, and scan and take a picture of every one. In buildings where you must go to each door...

This is not isolated, but rather their business model
