File Backup

I use File History to back up my PC onto an external drive.

It has worked fine for years, but has just started backing up files that it has already backed up, so I have thousands of duplicates.

How do I stop it doing this?

Also is there an app that will search an external drive and delete all the duplicates? I have tried a couple but they will only do the PC, not the external (W) drive.

Any help appreciated.

While I'm not a big fan of ccleaner (especially in it's newer iterations), I believe it will allow you to choose the drive(s) you want to check for duplicate files.

I stopped using File History because of the changes. My backup strategy now consists of Macrium Reflect images and OneDrive.

I don't know how long fle history has been around because in the 35 years I've used a computer, I've never used it. I'm as concerned about my OS setup as I am I am my files. Using my backup solution, I can image my entire system in 4 minutes, restore it in 5 min, and browse my image if I delete something important.. I trust my imaging app more than I do any backup solution MS offers. I'm not a 100% Onedrive user like @TraderGary but if I had a lot of files that were important to me, I would be. As it is, all my truly important files have been manually dropped into the cloud and aren't on my system drive.

As far as your duplicate files, EaseUS DupFiles Free can find the files for you on whatever drive you select and you can manually delete them but if you want to delete the dups within the app interface you have to use the paid version which is not cheap..
