Finding Printer's IP Address

I believe I am supposed to be able to find my printer's IP address under Devices and Printers-Printer Properties-Port. I believe from my attachment you will see that is where I was but I cannot get the IP address there anymore. I believe I used to but for some reason, it no longer seems available. How can I find my printer's IP address?

Open the "Devices and Printers." Right-click on your printer and select "Properties." Look for the IP address in the "Web Services" or "Ports" tab, depending on how many tabs are displayed.

Yes, that 'Properties' right at the bottom, not 'Printer Properties' near the top. Mine is on the 'Connected Device' tab.

I can also right-click on it in File Explorer > Network and select Properties there. Option One in FreeBooter's tutorial link.

Well not sure why trying to find the IP address no longer works when using Devices and Printers, but it doesn’t for me. So I tried using the File Explorer and it did list a bunch of letters, numbers, and colons as the IP address. That didn’t look like an IP address to me or anything else I recognized. I called a friend and he had me uncheck the IPv6 setting of my Ethernet adapter. I then was able to find the printer’s IP address using the File Explorer but still not using Devices and Printers. Well not sure why that is and would like to be able to do it that way but something has changed in Windows 11 causing this because I know I did not change anything that would have affected that.

Also wanted to show that using the Device Manager did not work either. Please see the attachment. Something is strange, but I have no idea what it is.

On a side note: I thank all of you for the help and wanted to point out that I did not get an email notification of any replies. I don’t know why that happened either. Any ideas?

Device manager not working as you've selected pint queues possibly. Does not "Printers" show in the list.

If not try the Action tab and select 'scan for hardware changes'.

Thank you for that but I don't have a Printers option and the only option under the Action tab is "Help." I am not sure what's going on but I did figure out that I can open my WiFi app, Eero, and see all that is attached to my Network and it shows the IP address of each device.

I checked my other Win 11 Pro machines and one of them works as it should by showing the IP of any printer I want to know and one of them shows the IP of one printer and the others are messed up just like the one this topic is about. They are all running the identical version of Windows 11 Pro 23H2 and the identical build number (OS Build 22631.4169) Yet they perform differently and I don't think they should. It should be as easy as all the above suggestions to find the printers' IP addresses.

I checked and none of these computers offer any option under the Device Managers' Action Tab except "Help."

1. Control Panel: IPv4 address is shown

2. File Explorer > Network > Printers: IPv6 address is shown

3. Device Manager > Printers: Strange IPv4 IP address shown

4. Device Manager > Printer Queues: Same strange IPv4 IP address shown

5. Log into router. Both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are shown.

Just for info with device manager if you left click a blank space to the right then click the Action tab you should get the options showing. Most probably won't help but good to know anyway.

Easier way, perhaps, is to use Nirsoft's Wireless Network Watcher. It's not installed you just run the .exe.

Wireless Network Watcher - Show who is connected to your wireless network

scans your wireless network and displays the list of all computers and devices that are currently connected to your network.

How is the printer (or any of them showing in the Devices and Printers screenshot for that matter) connected? Seeing as you don't have a "Printers" heading in Device Manager that they are all connected to either another computer and being shared, or connected to your router as a network printer. If it is through the router you won't find the IP address in Device Manager but this method,

Going back over this thread it looks like I'm getting a IPv6 address. It's a long string of characters. I was expecting it to start with something like 192. or 10. .

MisterEd I am going to try to explain what I see when I try to use the Control Panel as I believe you tried to demonstrate. It will be a step by step attachments, so I hope it makes sense.

I'm sorry for the above post, it is incomplete. Let me just say that in reply to MisterEd's post showing all the different ways to find the printer's IP address I want to say and had all the screenshots to show, that I cannot get the screen he shows. I get what you see in the first attachment. If I drill down I get what you can see here:

The only way I see a list of printer and other devices is to use a shortcut to Devices and Printers that I created years ago. Then I see the same screen he shows in his first attachment. Still using that, I do not get an IP address for my printer. If I turn off IPv6 services, I can get the printer's IP address using the File Explorer BUT that is the only way I can get it. None of the other screenshots in his post match anything can do. I am going to reply to another post here with a little more and a couple screenshots. Thanks MisterED for your reply.

I do have all my printers connected by a 17 port Ethernet switch. The first attachment is using the File Explorer to try to find the printer's IP address and IPv6 is active. What it shows, to me, is not what I expected to find as an IP address.

The next screenshot shows the same thing only with IPv6 disabled. It is the type of IP address I expected to fin not matter which method I used, but that didn't happen.

Luckily for me, I found a method that works great. That is to open my Eero Mesh WiFi adapter App on my smart phone. It shows me the IP addresses of every device that is connected to my Network. I had never thought about that until about a day after I posted this thread.

Sorry I missed this post. All my printers are attached to a 17 port switch that is part of my Network since it is connected to my WiFi router. I used to be able to see any of their IP addresses and still can now if I only use the IPv4 protocol and use the File Explorer's Network option.

I apologize if my post was misleading. The Windows 11 settings can lead you down a rabbit hole sometimes. I will repeat one of the methods again but show all the steps.

1. Open Windows 11 Settings
2. Select Bluetooth & devices
3. Scroll down and select Devices

4. Scroll down and select More devices and printer settings

5. Right-click on printer and select Properties

6. Select Web Services tab
7. Under Troubleshooting Information is IP address
