Solved Firefox Videos Flickering

I'm using Firefox 114.0.2 and recently noticed that many videos are flickering.
Many websites suggest disabling hardware acceleration, but I've tried that, and it doesn't work.
I've tested the same videos using Chrome, and there is no flickering.

Microsoft recently pushed a Windows Update titled: NVIDIA - Display - 31.0.15.4531
I found a bit of information about it here.
I don't know if that could have caused it. It's odd as it doesn't show up in Update History.

Any suggestions? :unsure:

I think there's a hardware acceleration in FF and there's one in Windows.

If no flickering with Chrome, and there is flickering with Firefox... then Firefox has to be the cause.
I have drivers from MS disabled.

I would do the following...

1. Unhook the internet.
2. Restore from backup to before the problem occurred.
3. Disable the driver updates (the link above).
4. Rehook the internet.
5. Update Firefox and/or Windows if necessary.

See if the problem recurs.

I did a system image restore back prior to Windows Update installing NVIDIA Graphics Driver 31.0.15.4531.
I've now got NVIDIA Graphics Driver 31.0.15.3623 installed and Firefox video flickering is fixed.

Now, how do I stop Windows Update from wanting to install this dodgy driver again? 👇

I used the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) method, then rebooted, but the driver is still sitting in Windows Update ready to install.

I can't comment on their results... the reg patch has worked for me since day one.
It's worked on both Insider and regular release channels.

It may be working. It may just be that any existing drivers sitting in Windows Update don't get removed.
Other than that, I could try the registry method.

I also tried the Windows Update troubleshooter. It didn't remove it.

Yeah... it won't remove drivers that have already been DL'd.
It just prevents new ones from being DL'd in the first place.

I worked around the dodgy NVIDIA Graphics Driver 31.0.15.4531 supplied by Microsoft.
I installed it again, but this time "Roll Back Driver" wasn't grayed out as it was previously.

It's still displaying NVIDIA Graphics Driver 31.0.15.4531 in Installed Apps and Programs & Features, but 31.0.15.3623 in Device Manager.
But the Firefox video flickering problem is gone.
