Goodix fingerprint reader disappears randomly

Hello all,
I have an XPS 13 9310 2-in-1, and it has a Goodix fingerprint reader. I am having an issue where the fingerprint reader will randomly disappear from Windows - it just thinks it doesn't exist. If I go into the BIOS, disable it, apply changes, and immediately re-enable it (applying changes, but not exiting the BIOS); as soon as I boot into Windows, it works perfectly for a while (sometimes a couple hours, sometimes a couple weeks), and then it disappears again, for the same process to repeat.

Any ideas? All drivers are up to date, and when it works, it works flawlessly, but when it doesn't, Windows doesn't see anything in device manager, and there are no signs it exists.

There are reports across the web with the goodix fingerprint missing in different devices/makers. Here are a few suggestions that have helped others.

1. Make sure you bios is updated to the latest version. Download any new bios directly from Dell Support Site by entering your service tag.
While you're there download the driver for your biometrics device which will be used in step 5.

apply the bios update.

2. When Windows boots back up, uninstall the biometrics driver. Device Manager> Right click on biometrics device>select uninstall>check the 'remove driver' box. Once driver is removed, Shut down.

3. Disconnect all cables and/or peripheral devices connected to the machine (ex. power cable, hdmi cable, external mouse/keyboard, flashdrives, etc).
- Ensure that device is powered/switched off.
- Press and hold down the power button for as long as 60 seconds to drain flea power or excess voltage.

4. The machine should be on an off state. You may power it up again through the power button, once light indicators flashed from the machine, rapidly tap on the F2 key multiple times until it boots directly on the BIOS menu.

Reload the BIOS to defaults:
- Inside the BIOS Set Up, navigate to the Exit Menu.
- Select Load Setup Default - click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- Select Exit and Save Changes then click Enter, select YES and click Enter.
- Laptop should boot back to Windows.

5. Back in windows, install the the biometrics device driver you downloaded in step 1. Does your fingerprint device work?

3. If that doesn't fix the issue check for corrupted system files. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

I just updated my BIOS with a new version Dell released a couple days ago, and that seems to have fixed it at least temporarily, but I will report back if it lasts.
