Hello all, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. My issue is the "New" context menu. I use Google Drive but with the installation came Google Sheets, Google Docs and Google Slides, none of which I use. No biggie, I'll just get rid of them but just like a wart, they always come back. I want them gone! Thanks in advance and stay safe people, Izzy.

I was able to get rid of all that in my 'new' context menu once and for all by using a little standalone app called shellnewhandler. You can get it from Sourceforge or Softpedia.

Yeah, ShellNewHandler worked for me, to get rid of several things, but it fails to remove Bitmap image and Text Document, because there are no
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew]
keys in the W11 registry.

@Feuer discovered that if you uninstall Paint and Notepad, the Text Document and Bitmap image lines disappear from New ....
And Brink has a way to remove New ... entirely from the context menu, but that means you lose shortcut and folder as well, and I, personally, find those extremely valuable to have right in the context menu.

@izzyforeal

I use Google Drive all the time for storage, but for my own custom folders. (I don't use the Windows user folders at all.)

If you don't need the automatic archiving function of GDrive, a shortcut does the trick, and neither software nor context menu entries are involved.

Just sayin'.

doesn't mean they're interchangeable.
Don't be to hasty. Depends where the wart is. W-art on an H-emorroid...Hmm. It might work. Might be a whole new breakthrough treatment. At the VERY least, the burn would make you forget about the wart for a while.

I never knew that H burned
Prep H doesn't burn but the h's do. So does W. W on h's would take the burn to volcanic levels. And yes, being female, I know all about the h's. The best curse you can put on someone you don't like is the h's. :LOL:
@Ghot You started this. :whistle:

I associated with a different notepad and fixed the new .txt.
Here is my script in this thread;

I was able to get rid of all that in my 'new' context menu once and for all by using a little standalone app called shellnewhandler. You can get it from Sourceforge or Softpedia.
Glasskuter,
Thanks for the response but I have tried that but no luck. Also, something weird is the Photoshop one seems to be a wart as well which has never happened before. I tried this tool a few days ago and for me it just doesn't work. Thank you!

Wisewiz,
Thanks for the reply. I use notepad from that new menu and don't want to get rid of that. Really everything is fine except the Google warts.

Darn!!You are absolutely right. Mine came back too. Google IS a wart!!! I disabled them again and they went away but after boot they came back. What's happening is Google drive repopulates them at boot. There's got to be a way to stop this. I'm going to play around with autoruns to see if I can figure how how to get rid of them and googledrive still work. I'll get back to you.

I did it!! Here's how. Log in to google drive on the web. Click gear icon-settings-click on manage apps in left pane-uncheck use by default by all the crap from the list you don't use. Then use ShellNewHandler to uncheck all the Google crap. Restart and they no longer repopulate.

You ain't gonna believe this. After about 5 minutes I went back the right click menu-the CANCERS CAME BACK. So, sorry,I was wrong. I may just change what cloud storage I use. But I'm not going to give up yet.

Why use google drive anyway? As a storage space, it is relatively average. Its main plus is it offers 15GB free where most only offer 5GB, but once you start paying, it is okish for 200GB but for 1TB, onedrive is far better value as you get MS Office 365 as well.

I actually have a lot more available storage in OneDrive, but when it comes to syncing, Onedrive has always given me problems. Also Onedrive does not offer selective sync like Google Drive does. Google Drive's sync is way better, at least for me. @izzyforeal I've asked Brink to help me to see if there a way to keep Google from re-writing the registry entries after I delete them. I'll let you know if he finds a solution.
