Halloween is barely celebrated in UK despite the media's attempts to hype it up.

Many of us remember the days when gangs of teenagers (<16yrs old usually) often turned trick or treat into extortion - pay us £5 or we will put eggs all over your car (or worse paint).

It has never had the US community fun ethos.

Nowadays, even teenagers see it as just for very young children to go round gently tricking or treating for small sweeties, and wouldn't be embarrasingly be seen dead (pardon the pun) at such events.

Even the police advise such young children should be accompanied with parents, and only go round the local community to people who know each other i.e. do not visit strangers for obvious reasons.

In any case, we have Guy Fawkes night on 5th November to celebrate he and his co-conspirators being foiled from blowing up Parliament, although I reckon we should be commiserating that they failed, particularly after the most brutal budget in history yesterday.

As for the U.S., as far as I'm concerned, Halloween is for children in terms of trick or treating. Teens sometimes will walk around with bags or open hands and no costume. Sometimes a teen might dress up.

I agree with your police about parents accompanying their children and going only to your local community. Really, that's only common sense.

Of course, you do have the adult Halloween parties. I remember when used to go night clubbing and people would dress up and go on Halloween. That was fun.
