I bought a new monitor and it supports HDR. Nice monitor, but when I use HDR the screen is really washed out with no way to adjust it. I tried an adjuster from the MS store and it really made it worse. Then I went in to Nvidia control panel and adjusted my contrast up a little and it seemed to get better, but I am not sure if I am complicating things by doing that.

Anyone else using HDR out there? What am I doing wrong?

@Catnip

Sounds to me like you did it right.
Washed out = needs a bit more contrast.

Keep in mind that not everyone's eyes see the same thing.

@Catnip

Have you experimented with the settings System > Display > HDR? HDR was a bit buggy/finicky last year in 24H2 (I had that) but MS made changes.

I have fiddled with those settings but not had much success, unfortunately.

@Ghot I set the contrast in Nvidia control panel and it is less washed out now. Maybe I could set it a little more. Blacks on screen are a dark grey at this point.

I am going to load Baldur's Gate and see what that looks like. I will report back.

Have you gone into the settings of your monitor and turned HDR on. Mine was set to off by default. Turn it on and the screen comes to life.

Well, Baldur's Gate 3 looks fantastic. I am quite impressed. The blacks on my monitor are a little grey for my taste and the brightness is a little much, but I think I can adjust those in Nvidia control panel.

I set my monitor to HDR mode and the screen doesn't look so washed out now. I redid the HDR settings after I set the monitor and it looks pretty good. I just have to fix the brightness.

I am going to mark this as solved. Thanks for all of your input.

As for Minsc, I might leave him where he is and just take Boo.
