I am running windows 11 on a unsupported pc.

Device name BRYAN-PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
Installed RAM 24.0 GB (23.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview
Version Dev
Installed on ‎10/‎5/‎2021
OS build 22471.1000
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22471.1000.0

the only thing missing is tpm 2.0 (tpm 1.2 installed ) and the cpu reqirement.
I am on the dev insider preview channel
I used a in place upgrade . Should i have done a clean install ?
Should i leave the insiders program all together or just switch to another channel ?
what version is the on you get from the windows 11 upgrade advisor.
As of right now still getting all updates ie quality , definition , cumulative updates .
if i am correct the only way to come of the dev channel is to do a clean install of win 10 and start over ?

Hi and welcome to the forum..
Yes.. you would have to perform a clean instillation to go to either 10 or another channel in the insider program or the final release version. Since the dev is beyond all of the others you can't just drop out and use the others.

From here on it's up to you.. what are your long term plans? If you want a sable version of 11 but still want more current updates the Beta channel is for you and yes,., there are ways to install 11 on an non compliant device.. But keep in mind it's not advised. HTH

Thank you for the quick reply ,
whats the major diffrence in a in place upgrade vs a clean install ?
other than a in place keeps your files and drivers etc ?

I would try the in place upgrade and see how it goes before I go for the clean., I think you will lose everything either way but it can't hurt to try the in place first.

Well i did the inplace upgrade and it kept everything.
But since i got to do a clean install of 10 again to get off the dev insider program.
I was just currious about a clean install of 11 or go back to inplace up grade.
Do you know what the version is from the windows 11 iso from ms is .

If you have the ISO from MS then you can do a clean instillation using that as long as you follow the instructions provided by MS. The key for 10 will work just fine with 11. Or you can install 10 and stay with that.

Windows 11 Pro x64 [Latest Release Preview]
the Dev channel is now been reset and is working towards the Ist update to Windows 11 due sometime in 2022, (probably in the fall given Micro Microsoft's intention for a single Feature update each year.

A clean install or an inplace update are more or less the same at this early stage of the Dev cycle

If you leave the Insiders, with your non compliant System Microsoft would advise you to return to Windows 10 but there are options available ( most if not all explained on these forums) if you wish to run Windows 11.

You can stay with the Dev channel if you wish, this is the only active Prerelease channel for Windows 11 and would expect the first Beta in a fair few months away.

The final Beta and thus the version now being offered through the Microsoft official channels (Windows Update Etc), is version 22000.194 and is available in various formats for install. Check the methods available to circumvent the Hardware requirements which are now in place , and the possible issues (no updates Etc), that may result from installing without meeting the requirements

You will need a Clean install to leave the Dev Channel, but either Windows 10 or 11 could be the OS installed - with the caveats explained above

Hopefully this will help with your decision but also have a look through the existing detailed posts available on the forum to clarify any issues

I don't know.. I would stick with 10 due to the uncertainty of the future updates. Or you can install 10 and your apps, do an in place upgrade to 11 after you make a backup of your 10 system to ensure you can go back to 10 if you run into issues with 11.

Yes,, I do believe that there will be a way to update 11 on non supported devices but it's smart to have a backup of a 10 setup. Just in case.

There are major companies still running on Windows 7 in 2021, though most are now looking at updating to later software as the hardware available now is often not well supported for use on Win7
