Hi, I have a fibre internet connection giving me about 85 mpbs both upload and download speed. I learnt that ethernet speed is ideal to use in devices. The router has two dedicated ethernet ports, one capable of supplying gb speed, another 10/100 fast ethernet ports. To get maximum speed , i had bought a network switch capacity of 1gb. I connected one ethernet main to the gb port and then to a port on network switch. I also had three separate ethernet ports connected to the N.Switch. While i had no problem on the two devices, a laptop and pc. the other pc, having win 7, has got me plug an ethernet error, eventhough i securely connected both the ports on pc and NS.
I had connected the ethernet wire to the NS, and a usb to ethernet adapter to the old pc, and i could see the device manager showing the network adapter devices. But, when i connect it, and open the pc, i get identifying network for a few seconds, followed by no net work access error message. this is repeating and if i t diagnose , i get plug ethernet cable error.
I disconnected the ethernet connection from NS and then connected to the second port directly , fe port , on the modem, without changing the port of usb to ethernet port. Now i get internet access without any hitch and my local lan connection shows as connected.
I also noted that when i connect to the switch, i have two showing of Lan, lan and lan1, with lan showing network unplugged with red cross , and lan1, identfhying and failure messages. are two show up of lan , not correct?
the connection when i connect to the modem direct is given here
why this . Is there any change in network connection settings internally when I connect to the Network Switch, or is there anything that I miss.\please give solution to me, as my switch is having 5 port support

Hello @jraju , excuse me but I miss what you are saying.

You have a network switch to tap into your gigabit ethernet port on the router. Understood. Although, I wouldn't have done a network switch. I would have got a new router with four gigabit ethernet ports, if the Internet Service Provider allow. Otherwise, do a network switch.

Are you saying just your Windows 7 machine is not working on the new network connection? Or is it all three computers? Really this forum is for Windows 11, so try Seven Forums, if the situation is uniquely about that machine.

Is the network switched a managed switch or is it unmanaged? A managed switch requires further setup and configuration, after the instillation is complete, for it to work.

Are you saying LEDs on the Network Switch are showing as red?

guage. nazi. these are all no answers to the query I raised.. I may have used the word inadvertantly. I do not think that i have used something wrong. to appraise, estimate, or judge, it is in this context i used the word.
My query is simple. When I connect to the modem, in the wan port, i get internet, whereas , if i connect to the ethernet port of network switch, i get ethernet plug unplugged error.
if the word, gauge, is wrongly used, i regret having used .
can i expect a reply to this query

I think you used the work correctly. There was a spelling error that I hadn't noticed, as I am a lousy speller anyway plus I make many typo errors when typing quickly. So no need to have regrets.

I did reply to your question earlier. If you would care to reply to that, then perhaps we can remain on topic, and take the discussion further.

Shouldn't the switch be plugged into a LAN port on the router and not a WAN? Then the PC to the switch.

EDIT: To be honest, I am a little lost with your first post. Never mind.

Hi, Iko22, read your reply. Whatever be the operating system, the procedure of obtaining net connection is not so different. The network switch is Unmanaged and so, it is a kind of plug and play . I also heard that it manages efficiently the speed from 10/100/1000 mbps speed . What i mentioned is that when i connect the usb to Ethernet adapter to Ethernet jack to the network switch, it lights on and off, prompting identifying network, network cable unplugged, no network, no access error message according to the on and off . connecting the same to the router, immediately gets connected, showing Ethernet port light on the router solid.
So, I am bit surprised why direct connection to the network switch is not established. all other ports are working properly.
The network switch i bought is the tplink model tl sg 105s 1gb switch.
I have connected the main connection to the network switch on port on router, that support speed of 1gb link speed. and all devices switches to the other ports .
My other pc is having support of 100 mbps, so should have worked with network switch connection.
Now I think i make it clear, why i was a bit surprised with the network issue

So you have the tplink model tl sg 105s 1gb and it is an unmanaged switch. Good. When ethernet plugged in, then you get flashing LED light on network switch. That means it is transmitting/receiving data. If you unplug ethernet then you get no network (port LED light should be OFF.) If I understood you correctly, that makes sense. Doesn't sound wrong to me.

When you say "all other ports are working properly," does that mean all ports on the network switch, or on the router?

Iko22, hi,
that is not the case. what i meant is this
When I connect to the modem, in the wan port, i get internet, with usb to ethernet adapter to a pc, whereas , if i connect to the ethernet port of network switch, i get ethernet plug unplugged error. the network switch is unmanged .
Will it get the private ip address by the router to this network switch also.
there is no menu available to see the connected devices so that i could check , if the said problematic device is also getting ip. i get internet access thro lan and wifi. lan connections to the pcs, and wifi connections to tv and mobiles.
checked all the things and still i could not find the reason

Normally you would connect ethernet connections to your router and connect the router to a modem. Often the modem is integrated within the router. I'm assuming you have that and are using "modem" to mean integrated "router/modem", otherwise such connections are not possible.

The network switch is an ethernet device and does not get an ip address. It just gets an ethernet MAC address. The ethernet is transparent to the Internet until you reach an interface that converts an ethernet data frame into internet payloads. You will not be able to see the MAC address unless this is happening. Some managed switches have ip addresses but an unmanaged one will not. You have to go by the LEDs on the network switch. What are the LEDs on the switch telling you?

What is meaning when you say "ethernet plug unplugged error?" How is plug generating such an error?
Yes, your particular network switch has no menu. It should still work similarly like a USB converter also needs no menu.

The ISP incoming Fibre plugs into the WAN on the Modem/Router.
The Network switch plugs into a LAN Port on the Modem/Router.
The Ethernet PC’s/or Wall Outlets plug into the Switch.

It’s that simple, isn’t it? I have never known how else this would be done.

usb to Ethernet adapter
What is this for? Why do you need it? I am just intrigued by your method is all.
Are you saying your Dell Inspiron 3910 doesn’t have an Ethernet port and you need a USB adapter, that would be odd. I don’t get it.

Not trying to confuse you, but it’s confusing. Photos or a diagram showing how everything is connected may help?

Hi, iko22, your quote:
What are the LEDs on the switch telling you?
When connected the led small port is glowing indicating the connection. When, I connect the problematic device ethernet, just it is on and off, that is the issue. when the light is on and off, i get ethernet unplugged error. is that correct. You are correect, that the network switch does not have a ip address. But the other connections are showing with device private ip, in the advanced ip scanner software. when i connect to the switch, this connection becomes dead in the software.
when other devices are working in network switch, this pc is not working . that is the surprise element.\

Hi, ants , please see my first post. As the ethernet port is damaged and as the network is integrated in to the mother board, I use the usb to ethernet adapter. is that explanation enough.

Yes it is something of a surprise, as connections should be automatic. The device is definitely a Gigabit device and should therefore work. However you need more ethernet cables to connect the switch to your network. Is it possible that one of the additional ethernet cables is not up to standard for gigabit networks? Try using different cables or swapping cables round and see if there is a difference?

The TP-Link manual for that device says there is two meanings for flashing LEDs. If the LEDs are quick flashing, then the port is transmitting/receiving data. If the LEDs are slow flashing then a Loop is detected on the corresponding port. If there is a Loop detected in the network, then the network switch Power LED should also flash.

An Ethernet Loop occurs when a network has more than one active path carrying information from the same source to the same destination.

I don't see how your simple network switch configuration could have introduced a Loop. Still, there is a "Loop Prevention" switch located on the switch device. Default is OFF. Maybe switch the Loop Prevention switch to ON?

I still don't know what is flagging an "ethernet unplugged error" or what an "ethernet unplugged error" is. How can you tell that is the case? If true, it sounds like the cables are not up to standard.

Hi, iko22, thank you very much for the detailed reply. i have not found any physical loop prevention switch. I also heard that unmanaged network switches have no such separate switches. There is a mention of loop prevention in the features . thats all.
regarding the error plug an ethernet plug error. When i connect to the network switch port, the light there does not seem to be reliable. It is off and then on, at the same time, i could see in the system tray of the pc, identifying network, and then ultimate failure and the Lan icon, gets red x mark.
I have tried so many things that could , but could not find, why this unmanaged switch port is not allowing internet. When you plug in the ethernet in switch port, it does not get internet, but when you switch in to router, it gets. The digisol router has no menu to show, the connected device and I downloaded advanced ip scanner software to know the connected device. The connected device shows live when in router port, the same device is showing dead , when connected to the network switch.
I think that there is more to it than meet the eye.
the next thing i will try to have a quality ethernet wire with jack.
