I have a folder with multiple .mp4 files. I'd like to associate the file type with multiple players like movie / tv / and both old and new media player. I just had a 10 year old all in one die and I copied the files over to a new win11 machine from the SSD and this laptop will not show the different files type in the right click menu. I appreciate the help.

Not possible.

Best way might be to convert file categories to a different video file type, then you can associate with different programs (e.g. TV would be .mp4, movie could be .mkv)

In Explorer, right click on file name > try Show more options

Associate file types, Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Choose defaults by file types

Agreed, haven't found it possible to associate one file type with more than one program. But one can right-click a file and choose Open with then the program to use, just don't put a check mark in the box at the bottom unless wanting to use the chosen program as the default double-click of the file.

Do as @Berton suggested, try each player once, then your Open with menu will populate.

Berton is spot on. There can only be one default association, but you can use Berton's method (as I frequently have) to add as many apps as you like to the 'Open with..' list.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
