There used to be the option of setting CsEnabled option to 0 in the registry key prior to Windows 10 20H2 which Microsoft had removed and disabled on Windows 10 2004 and later:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

Update for Windows 10 >= 20h2 including Windows 11:

Prior to doing the above, you need to do the following and reboot:

Setting PlatformAoAcOverride to 0 under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power. Removing the entry again to get back modern standby.

Open cmd.exe as admin and run:

reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0

You can just run regedit as admin and delete PlatformAoAcOverride under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power again to revert back. Or just as admin in cmd.exe:

reg delete "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" /v PlatformAoAcOverride

Oh, the ole "registry hacks" makes everything fine mentality.

Pretty sure if people actually "explored" the OS they would find that many of those reg hacks are unnecessary and aren't required.

Also, when something goes wrong due to such hacks, it's always Windows' fault, never the one tinkering with the registry.

For laptops, there is only one power plan by default - balancing. I need another one for games (with SpeedShift=2 e.g.).

But you can always create a custom power plan as well. From my Lenovo ThinkPad laptop....

Create Power Plan_1.JPG

Create Power Plan_2.JPG
Again, all you have to do is look

Thays what I mean. I didnt do any of the reg things. I installed windows and hello power plans xD.
Depends on the system and the BIOS. If S3 is disabled in the BIOS, you won't see all the power plans until you add that key. One easy way to tell is look at the properties of your network adapter in Device Manager, does it have a "Power Management" tab? If not, then you will not see any power plan other than the Balanced, you will not even see the Power Saver or the High Performance even if you did what Brink had linked to.

But you can always create a custom power plan as well. From my Lenovo ThinkPad laptop....

Again, all you have to do is look
It depends on the laptop. On a Dell, you will only see Dell and Balanced until ModernStandby is disabled which requires the registry hack.
Lenovo seems to be more generic as they do not even have their own plans so they just enabled everything Windows shipped with. Take a look your wireless adapter in Device Manager and the properties, if you have a "Power Management" tab, that is the reason you can see everything as what it boils down to is if S3 mode is still available in the BIOS or not. If it is, then you will see all the profiles. If not, then you won't until one does the registry hack.

unnamed.png
2021-07-15_13-06-03.jpgThe Power Saver, High Performance and Ultimate Performace are hidden without that registry hack. Create a power plan will only create from Balanced and nothing else. A lot has to do with if S3 is enabled in the BIOS or not. That's why either you will see Power Saver and High Performance or not as Windows does ship with 4 profiles, but they will only show up if the BIOS still allows S3 sleep mode, otherwise it will not because they are trying to move to Modern Standby. So the only way you will even have those profiles shown is if your BIOS still supported Connected Standby.

In addition: :)

That only works if your BIOS supports enabling S3 mode as I have already used that tutorial before, nothing other than Dell and Balanced shows up no matter how many times you do it. There will be new "Balances" but there will not be a hidden section with the High Performance and Power Saving or even Ultimate Performance. See post #6 in this thread who explains the issue better as basically until you have a power management tab in Device Manager when looking at device properties, the restore missing default power plans will not do anything:

Power plan hidden, but exists in the system.

Yes, because I did it and tested it before posting as the profiles won't show up on my Dell XPS 15 9570 until I did the registry hack on 22000.65 yesterday. I have been trying to get the hidden settings to show up since January 2020 in Widows 10 as Killer Networking support required it to provide further support but was not able to do so until yesterday.

Be aware that sometimes updating the chipset driver will change power plans, also.

It depends on the laptop. On a Dell, you will only see Dell and Balanced until ModernStandby is disabled which requires the registry hack.

I guess I can't argue about your laptop, but on mine no such issues exist. I just created this custom High Performance power plan. No registry hacks required. All done from the Power Settings...

Works for me. This is on a 2017 (2nd gen) Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1.

At any rate I recognize that not everyone doesn't have the same equipment with the same options so, I guess other actions are needed.

Peace

I just created this custom High Performance power plan. No registry hacks required.
If nothing is configured for a specific processor, you may not need to create a plan. Will Windows implicitly launch it (High Performance power plan)? (Laptop)
