subject says it. Quite oftem I get that pop-up in Chrome. When I go to the notification sites via settings, it lists some but not NORDVPN. Thoughts on how to stop it

I would be looking at the Chrome extensions you have installed. If Nordvpn is there, if you don't want it, uninstall it. It's not a full version of Nordvpn anyway. To use all its features you have to pay for it. They're probably wanting you to buy it is why you see popups..

OH CRAP. Ghot, it's worse than that. This is all happening on my W10 computer. I have a W11 computer and almost all of my Forum time pertains to W11. But this is happening on W10. I'll go post it there.

Of course, if someone has a solution for my set-up, feel free to post it here. For the record: winver 21H2 Build 19044.1706

Glass-- I don't have NORDVPN. I have Ublock (not really used) and Zenmate (used but not much). I don't even know if the popup is legitimate.

I've full-scanned with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Nothing found.
That was on my W11 laptop (Dell). Will do same for W10 Laptop (Acer)

How do I enter it into a post?
I can save it in a .doc file and attach that, but I'm sure there is an easier way?

Have a look in Chrome settings. My Dad had some issues like this and a program had listed itself in the Chrome settings - it took some deleting as it kept coming back again. Can't remember which settings - but go through all of them - some are nested. It will be under something like which sites can load automatically or which sites are registered in Chrome or something.

It's one reason I don't use Chrome :-) Find the settings easier on Firefox.

It would also be interesting to see if it disappeared if you uninstalled Chrome and used a different browser. In case Chrome has been hacked (as happened with my Dad). One program had hacked it and was linking others so you couldn't find the original source of the pop ups easily.

I agree. That popup is coming either from the site you are on (Yahoo) or your browser. I would lean toward Yahoo as (IMO)they are notoriously bad. I do not get it when I go to Yahoo using Firefox or Edge, but I'm using an ad blocker so I wouldn't. May I suggest that you look into adding UBlock Origin browser extension (available in all 3 major browsers). It really cuts down on the ads you see.

Yeah i agree its mostly gonna be coming from yahoo, as you say they are notoriously bad for it, Another bit of info, Opera GX actually has a really good one built it, They also let you use Chrome extensions too but they're are also a good few for the main three browsers too( How much it hurts me to say Edge is a main one but sadly it is)

In terms of that screenshot you can just click the cross to get rid of the ad before doing the screenshot. Sorry if that's stating the obvious.

The only time I get things like that come up is on certain sites. For example the HP site will always come up with one like that on the right side near the top - which you have to click away to see the site info.

I use Firefox and adblock plus and don't get things like that. Even without adblock plus I don't get pop ups like that with Firefox. Adblock plus mainly blocks in page adverts - not sure it would work on browser pop ups like that. Yahoo is more than just a web page.

Agree that it's probably the Yahoo page. Could you just set a different home page? I just make Google the home page. Then you get a popup asking if you want to download chrome! But only the first time - then it's gone.

Is that using Chrome? I'd suggest going deep into the settings and see what is allowed/set as your home page - seem to remember there are a couple of not so easy to find nested menus under that section. That's where I found three sites had "installed" themselves on the home page on my Dad's. One was a browser hijack thing and that allowed other popups to install themselves. Refreshing chrome didn't do any good. Ended up doing a format and clean install and installing a different browser.
