Solved How to get rid of picture on search box

Did this come with an update? I don't like it. Any way to get rid of the little picture at the right hand side of the search box. Today's is a bunch of flowers. Which is quite nice but it's messing up my task bar.

Switch the search box to 'search icon and label', or just an icon if your tasbar is tight on space.

If you want to keep it as a search box on your taskbar, then you'll need to turn off Search Highlights to remove the picture.

Thanks. I changed it to search icon and label and the picture is gone and it looks like a search box. But Mothers Day/news still comes up when I click on search. So it's not actually a search box now is it? Hmm not a search box. Just literally an icon and label that looks like a search box. I'll go icon only then. I would like a search box on the icon bar that is actually a search box though.

How come you have a different picture when I had flowers! Or do microsoft know I'm female? Wouldn't surprise me!

No, MS know you're in the UK. The flowers were for Mothering Sunday. But that's a UK date and Edwin is in Canada where Mother's Day is May 14th.

This used to work and populate with new icon each day but has now stopped on some of my machines, nothing has changed, all setting are equal on all machines, even ran the "Enable Search the Web with Bing in Windows Search" batch file which seemed to work for a few minutes but now back to the default BING Icon ... Very bizarre this. Seem to be one of those ominous feature switches issue?

The picture is a small version of whatever is the main headline item in the Search window. And when that's 'Explore AI-powered Bing' (as it is for me today) then you'll see a bing icon on the taskbar search box, that's all. Mine was Charlie Chaplin's birthday yesterday. It will be something else tomorrow.

That is my point, it was indeed Chaplins birthday, some machines displayed "the hat and umbrella" others the blank "Bing" icon where all machines are in the same location.

This is puzzling me as well although if I'm honest I prefer the Bing icon... but I would just like to know what happened.

For me this coincided exactly with me enabling the 'Kernel Mode' that I kept being nagged about. I had the picture before enabling this feature and doing the requested restart. Following the restart and it was gone. I disabled the Kernel Mode again but no pictures now.

I think your experience is just coincidence, it looks pretty much like a "feature" switch that has been rolled out over time for all of my machines are now on the BING icon and have lost the daily themed/animated preview Icons. I would love to be able to decide myself what I want to see there.

Why in the actual feck is this even an issue!?!?!?

Forget the damn Search Box!!! The Taskbar is clogged up enough as it is!!!

Just click Start and start typing!!! Or, use WinKey+S!!!

It is all happening here i.e. what Icon gets displayed in the searchbox:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SearchSettings\Dynamic

...but controlled from elsewhere ...
