how to open a blank tab

win10 64 bit 20h2 ver. now it is 22h2
ok i posted about having a house fire and now staying in the hampton inns. and i reset the internet to public. we can't do the phones as now we are out of data and my have to increase that soon. but i have a pc that had win10 on and didn't use for a few years and so i started it up today and it came up with win11 is ready to install and it did but now for some reason when i click the the plus on the right of the top bar where the tabs show up it goes to yahoo for there home page. i have yahoo set to open for my mail everytime i open the chrome browser i never had that before and it did not do this when win10 was on it a few hours ago.

ok i guess i knew that but what i was after was when i tap the + to open a tab a blank page opens. now it opens yahoo. but i will give that a try that may be what i did the last time and just forgot. we had our house burn down and this pc was a older win11 ready setting in a lower cabinet that did not get water and smoke so i revived it. again thanks

ok i did the about:blank and shut down chrome and restarted it and i did get 1 tab that was blank but when i tap the + again i get yahoo home page. now i do not recall getting that on my other ps. but again my mind is spinning a bit because we have been doing none stop for the last 5 days. thanks

Don't use the + button, wheel-click or Ctr/Shift click the about:blank Bookmark I demonstrated.

... you'll get what the browser wants you to get, not what you want (irrespective of Start page or Home page setup to about:blank)

Don't use the +

Open the browser at about:blank and create a bookmark to this page. It will appear in the bookmark toolbar. Now every time you want to open a blank page, right-click the bookmark > Open in a new tab/window

This extension from the Chrome Web Store works! I just installed it on my up to date version of Edge.

Empty New Tab Page​


I got a few popups from microsft crying about it but only once so far.

The 'new' M.$ new tab page has a super sized "let us store tracking cookies on your pc!" popup at the bottom every time you open it. That was the last straw.

I also have my start page set to "edge://settings/content/cookies/siteData" because Edge won't remove cookies automatically no matter what you do.
