OS
win10 64 bit 20h2 ver. now it is 22h2
ok i have tried all the things i ahve found online including downlaoding the 2 turn off touchpad and ran them and still my touchpad is on with a usb mouse is connected. however those 2 reg files seem to say the same thing

one says turn off leasve the touchpad on when the mouse is connected
and one says turn on leave touchpad on when mouse is connected.
both of these say the same thing for the mouse, so is there a file i can get that will actually turn off the touch pad when the mouse is connected?

the pc i'm working on is ver 23h2 installed on 3-9-2024 build 22631.4602 and it is on a hp 15.6 da0033wm intel core 13-8130u 2.2 ghz and this pc got win11 by itself. i'm thinking it may need an update for a driver. i put this ssd drive into this pc and believe it or not it took off and ran so maybe a bios setting is off as well but before i mess with all of that maybe just a driver.
i did updates and a firmware update and it still will not work. so is there an alternat procedure? thanks

Hello, :alien:

If you have a precision touchpad, you should be able to turn off Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected for this below.

Nar, one is for "turn on" the setting, and the other to "turn off" the setting.

If you don't have the setting in option one of the tutorial above, then you don't have a precision touchpad for it to work.

that could be so. i just did the turn of and leave the mouse on and it failed. i do not see any option in setting to turn it off, if i had one i would just tap it. i have 2 of the same model pcs and one the touchpad is off when the mouse is connected and this one it seems to be not working. i will check in the bios. maybe a setting is off there. one thing that surprised me was i took the ssd out of a pc that came from our house fire and put it into this pc i just got from ebay and it took off and is working good. this is the first time i had that happen like that with these win11 pcs. it did not do that with the other pc when i put a win11 os ssd into that one i had to use the efd drive to reinstall win11

You should check if the right touchpad driver is installed for this PC (from HP's Support site). Without a specific driver, most touchpads behave as "generic" mice without the extra settings support.

i just went to hp and let hp find my pc and install needed drivers and the touchpad still is on with the mouse connected. so i will let this ride for a few days just to see if win11 finds a fix. thanks

OMG!! Not the first choice of action I'd've made
i just went to hp and let hp find my pc and install needed drivers
.. and the rest. One of the first things I do with my new HPs is remove all the proprietary bloatware, most (all?) of which runs in the background sapping computer resources, and is simply duplicating functions already performed by Windows (hardware/software management, network management, etc).

And still with no result

Did you re-boot?

And, you may still need to go into the registry and check that this instruction was inserted. If not, manually add the registry entry

i have all of that turned off in task manager. but when i set up the pc i installed win10 and installed it without any internet to ger just the basics and declined everything. and then let it do updates. but i guess there are some hp stuff i may need to find and remove. thanks but still the touchpad is not turning off when the mouse is connected. i even uninstalled the drivers and if failed. the last time i ran into that issue i just unplugged the touch pad and then it worked perfect. the issue is when i'm typing my thumbs hit the pad and the curser moves and i'm typing then in the wrong spot and that gets my goat bad. thanks

In addition, check to see if you may have any HP or Synaptics type software already installed that includes settings for your touchpad.

You can use a script to toggle it on/off. Here is one result. There are .bat, .ps1 and vbs floating around online.
