HP All-in-One Touchscreen PC: Blue Screen at HP Splash Screen

When I started up my HP All-in-One this morning, I was sent to the HP splash screen with the spinning circle, but then the circle stopped spinning and it went to a blue screen that had a stop error code. I went to the Event Viewer to see what the BSOD was about, and it said something about Event: 162, volmgr. I did not see a 42 or a 41 but I did see a 4. Due to not seeing the 4, the research from Google was not very good or thorough. I have been noticing that the sound on the said computer does not always work which is supposed to normally do so at the Windows 11 Lock Screen as all of my other HP PC's do it. So I don't know "volmgr" has to do with that issue or not but it sounds as if it would.

I thought that would happen. For some reason, Microsoft Defender and my Bitdefender by Orbi blocked the process of gathering all the logs. When I tried to re run the log collector with the antivirus disabled, it then said it could not let me proceed with an error in red writing in CMD.

Before anyone gets started, I have Defender enabled only for periodic scanning.

I had to download it the other way as a work around. The simpler way wasn't working, so I don't know. Check this out and let me know if all the error files can be found now.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

  • If new device drivers or system services have been added recently, try removing or updating them. Try to determine what changed in the system that caused the new bug check code to appear.
  • Look in Device Manager to see if any devices are marked with an exclamation point (!), which indicates a problem. Review the events log displayed in the properties for any faulting device driver. Try to update the related driver.
  • Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. Look for critical errors in the system log that occurred in the same time window as the blue screen.
  • If you recently added hardware to the system, try removing or replacing it. Or check with the manufacturer to see if any patches are available.
  • Install Windows updates.
  • If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't know what it is you probably are not overclocking.
  • Use SpeedFan to monitor temperatures in computers, overheating can cause BSOD.
  • Use Memtest86+ disc to check system memory's (RAM's) for errors.
  • Use CrystalDiskInfo to check SMART health report of the hard disk drive (HDD).


Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges and execute bellow commands one at a time.

Thanks! I will work on this soon. This is the computer I use for my photography. I have a Back To School photo shoot to do at the Golden Hour of my nieces. Hopefully it will be okay to use by then. As of now, the computer is functioning okay.

The AV software can be reinstalled after the troubleshooting has completed.

Will do! Thanks for the information. Yes. Bitdefender was blocking the V2 Log Collector when I ran hence why it probably didn't run correctly. It started up perfectly fine this morning and as @FreeBooter said to do, I successfully turned off Microsoft Defender while using Bitdefender. I am starting do this troubleshooting now.

This is the updated log collector information that was ran around 12:00 pm for the Startup problem from yesterday. Bitdefender was completely removed and Microsoft Defender is now running temporarily until I can reinstall Bitdefender.

I have not heard anything about how to address this problem after removing Bitdefender and re running the V2 Log Collector. I am not in a hurry as the computer seems to be doing better now. I just wanted some clarification on what to do next and if the issue is resolved or not. Thank you!
