I'm thinking about upgrading the memory in my HP Envy x360 Convertible 15-ds108cl laptop. The specs say that it has 2 8GB DDR4-3200 260 pin SO-DIMM memory modules. Looking on Amazon I'm totally lost on what memory to buy. I want to upgrade to at least 16GB. I would like recommendations on what memory I should go with.

Go with @BunnyJ They are great, you can scan your computer and find all options available. My only advice would be to a. check the maximum you can install and b. get a matching pair, for example if you wanted 32Gb get 2 x 16Gb rather than 1 x 32Gb

If you read my post about taking the backs off of the newer laptops, you know it's not my favorite thing to do. With past experiences taking the backs off of laptops I think it will go OK. The video I watch made it look easy. I was thinking about going with 32GB but even my desktops never had more than 16GB. I did try it one time with a desktop. For whatever reason I couldn't get it to boot with four sticks of memory. Two were the original and the other two was the memory I bought to upgrade it with.

I am confused, You say the computer has 2- 8 gig modules already. 8+8=16 the last time I was in school.
My bad, it has 2 4GB modules. I'm upgrading to 2 8GB modules.

The 360's are a breeze to remove the back cover. I have done HD's and ram on them for clients. I actually own one of the higher-end Specte models.
Just for the future, Do not break the screen as the repair is costly. Keyboards are a bear as well. Once you remove the motherboard, there are about 30 screws holding the keyboard in.

I'd be caught upgrading to 2 16GB modules. The more RAM, the faster it'll run. Never mind that I couldn't tell the difference . . .

I watched a how-to video and, in the video, the back pop right off after removing the screws. All he did was use the plastic pry tool on one lock and then it came right off. If it goes like that for me, it will be the easiest I've done since they did away with the removable access covers. I have replaced a touch screen on my Wife's niece's HP laptop when somebody dropped it. I also replaced the keyboard on a HP laptop my wife bought from Walmart. I don't know why or how but when she hit a key something else would get typed. The new keyboard worked for a few months before it started doing the same thing. This time I just removed the HDD and sent it to the electronic recycle bin where I work. Even though I'm no stranger to opening up a laptop I still get nervous when I do.

I'd be caught upgrading to 2 16GB modules. The more RAM, the faster it'll run. Never mind that I couldn't tell the difference . . .
I was thinking about upgrading to 32GB. Then I got thinking why I would need to spend the extra money when 16 GB will do fine for me to run VMs on my laptop.

In my humble opinion I didn't think laptops were upgradable.
You are close to being correct. Some laptops are what you buy is what you get. On the laptops I have upgraded it's usually upgrading from an HDD to an SSD. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to go from an HDD to an SSD.

Yeah I suppose it is a big difference. I have had my laptop for a year now and haven't done anything too it except upgrade to windows 11 from windows 10 lol. I think mine is one of those that would be hard to upgrade. its a HP and not very thick.

Partly true.. more memory will help but there comes a point where more RAM will no longer make it faster. But I do agree that more is better.

I did consider going with 32GB and decided that 16GB should be enough. I just wanted more memory to run my VMs. With only 8GB and some of that being shared with the video card there wasn't much left to share with the VMs. If I was using it for gaming or things like video editing or photo editing, I would have gone with the two 16GB modules.

I see HP list in the specs that it has a 1TB 5400 rpm Sata drive. If the HDD can be replaced an SSD would make a world of difference.
