Hello all... I hope you are all doing well on this Saturday morning.

I need help with my Mom's Desktop Computer. It is an HP Slim Desktop - S01-pF1013w. When logging into Windows (This happened with Windows 10 as well - same with Windows 11), it takes too long to get to the Windows login screen upon startup. What I mean by this, is that when I start it up to enter the Windows Hello PIN Code, it is rather buggy and takes a few minutes to get the PIN to enter in. It is sluggish is what I am trying to say. When I enter the PIN, it hangs up upon entering the numbers. After it has warmed up, it is fine though. I am wondering if there are any driver updates that need to be done to fix the keyboard typing lag. I checked the BIOS version, and it is fully updated. We are using the keyboard that came with the computer, but it even happens on our wireless keyboards as well. I hope you all understand what I am saying.

Hope someone can help me with this.

Thanks, Jesse

Has it always been this way or is this a recent occurrence? I suspect it's due to the HDD not being able to run all that fast. I know that my girlfriends laptop is dreadfully slow and it has an HDD.

The Command Prompt says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." I tried uploading the screen snip of it, but it is saying the file is too large.

Always! Ever since we bought it. I contacted HP about it, they said to try to see if there is any updated drivers or updates for it, or press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get the Windows login screen to appear faster. Otherwise, when pressing ENTER it lags and takes a few to get it to come up.

Then I double down on the HDD being the issue. HP didn't install the best one available from the factory from the get go. The only way to fix that issue is to replace it with an SSD and/or adding an SSD for the OS/Apps and use the HDD for data storage.

It is just my mom that uses it. I use it sometimes to look up things or pay bills. But I use my Laptop or desktop for extensive use. There isn't anything else via Registry or something else that might be a fix for it other than putting an SSD in it?

No.. you can't change anything in the registry to speed up a slow HDD.

No need. I can take your word. This is just 'checking things off the list'. I find 99% of my issues go away by regularly running an SFC immediately after an update or after some weirdness like you're describing.

I agree with @BunnyJ Could do with a ssd. I think maybe a bit more ram, but that shouldn't affect your problem I only had 8Gb in my other machine so I doubled it to 16GB apps and things are a lot faster

If it has an HDD than I agree with BunnyJ. If you replace the HDD with an SSD you will see much quicker startups. My old Acer Spin i7 laptop would take forever to get to the log-in screen. After I replaced the HDD with an SSD the starts were almost instant. The same thing with my wife's old HP All-N-One. I use to complain to her about wasting her money on a Walmart piece of crap. After I found out how to take the back off I replaced the HDD with an SSD and it was as if she had bought a new desktop. It runs so great we gave it to our son when my wife bought her new laptop.

It is just my mom that uses it. I use it sometimes to look up things or pay bills. But I use my Laptop or desktop for extensive use. There isn't anything else via Registry or something else that might be a fix for it other than putting an SSD in it?
Sadly, the only way to fix a slow HDD is to replace it with something faster. Most OEM computers, especially the lower end computers from your discount department stores come with very inexpensive and slow HDDs. If I remember correctly, they are only 5400 rpm spinners.

Looking at the specs BunnyJ posted it's a very basic desktop. I'm surprised that it actually came with a 7200 rpm HDD.

Same here.. but I doubt it's a high end HDD.. most likely a very low end model.

I think you are right. Looking at the specs I think more memory and an SSD would make a difference. I'm just not sure it would be worth the money.

Go for the low hanging fruit first. Open Task Manager and click the Startup tab. Right click on each item in turn, and click Disable. Restart the computer and see if there is any improvement.

Since the problem has been there from day one, it may be that the PC came pre configured with a lot of startup programs.

Hope this helps.
