HP Support Assistant just sent me this message. Saying my warranty has 122 YEARS left on it - but expires in 1899. Then offers an extended warranty. (It actually expires in April this year). Do you think HP Support Assistant has been hacked?

Looking at this, dated January 2022, maybe yes it has been hacked.

I really never found any use for HP Support Assistant, or really any of the programs that are preinstalled on any computer that I have bought. Probably personal taste more than anything but they do use a lot of resources. Is there an update for the program?

diagnostic tests in windows rather that going to the Bios for.
Grated not much else but enough to keep it and use it on occasion.

It gets installed automatically and yes I used it to upgrade the bios and a couple of drivers. But having read this 👇I have uninstalled it.

But honestly, how can HP's own app make such an error as to say your warranty is 122 years! No updates available but when I refreshed it, it then showed the right information. But is now uninstalled.

Lots of the monitoring and updating programs are full of holes. Dells always had problems with theirs. I didn't trust Huawei's and uninstalled it immediately. I just download drivers and BIOS and do them myself. That is strange though about the message on the HP.

Simple error in coding, decimal point in wrong place or incorrect integer variable starting point resulting in wrong start date and count. Probably a Friday afternoon job. :)

Hmm, more concerning and possibly a serious issue is that if HP's supplied apps check with their servers to check the date, in order to display warranty remaining info etc, the same HP utilities might also check for driver updates using the same system (including BIOS/ firmware updates), so if the error is not in the apps coding but is occurring on the server side it could lead to some interesting and possibly damaging behaviour.
I think most people have seen what happens when a server side certificate for example fails for whatever reason and the chaos that can cause.

Time travel - Wikipedia 🤣
Well I haven’t been anywhere but my computer seems to have been doing some time travel! Amazing the things they can build in these days :D.

Seriously though, I was not impressed. It was quite freaky. I did for a moment think - that’s good - if they’ve given me this accidental very long warranty- but then they took it away again.

HP Support Assistant just sent me this message. Saying my warranty has 122 YEARS left on it - but expires in 1899. Then offers an extended warranty. (It actually expires in April this year). Do you think HP Support Assistant has been hacked?
