Solved I can't rename folders.

When i try to rename a a file / folder i get this error message!

Then i press "Try again" and this pops up

This happen started happening when i updated to the current windows update ( 21H2 (OS Build 22000.613) ).

I'm not 100% sure tho, since before i updated i was testing stuff with PyInstaller and i didn't get my output folder for some reason.

I'm on the same Build and no problem in File Explorer in renaming a folder or creating a new folder or a subfolder in another.

I'm assuming it's on the C: drive. If so, do the following.

Open an elevated Command Prompt, and paste the following into it.

Code:

chkdsk C: /r

You will be offered a restart.

After the restart, try again.

Ok, after waiting around 12 hours or so, i tried again and it didn't work, if you need like a log file or something i can send them if you teach me how.

Open file explorer, browse to C:\users\yourusername\documents.
Right click on a document and select rename. Will it rename from there?
right click on document again, select properties-security tab. Select your name from the list. Below that, does it show you have full control of the file? If so, this proves your permissions haven't gotten messed up.

Open command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Make note if system file checker finds and fixes any corrupt files. Restart and try renaming again.

If it finds corrupt files it can not fix type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
(note spaces in command)
restart and try once more

Right click the file/folder you cannot rename and click properties Open File Location and see what that does. check all the paths to the file/folder have not been changed.
other things to try, Check if the file is locked, take ownership of file

1- It wont let me rename folders on \documents, also my permissions are fine.
2- It didn't find any corrupt files. I restarted my notebook so it may be fixed but its not.
3- Should i use the dism command anyways if it didn't find any corrupted files?

1- Its not a specific file, this happen when i try to rename any folder.
2- I checked the path of the file and it does have the current path, for example if i made the folder inside desktop, it shows its on desktop.
3- Its not locked, i tried anyways but it didn't work.

You can Try uninstalling KB5012592. It should put you back on previous build.

This is troubling. If removing the update doesn't fix it, I hope you have a backup.If not you will have to do a repair install.

I will use this option as a last resort, as the "repair install" will most likely be able to fix it.

In the meantime I will wait for more answers that can help solve this problem, maybe there is something that will work for me.

You already gave yourself the answer... an In-Place upgrade (repair install) should fix the problem.
IF it doesn't, then it's not a Windows problem, but must be a problem with 3rd party software, or a hardware problem.

Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade

This tutorial will show you how to do a repair install of Windows 11 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything. If you need to repair or create a new recovery partition or having problems with the Windows 11 operating system on your PC, and the usual solutions will not fix it...

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Windows 11 ISO (use the 3rd option), and save the ISO to your desktop.
Download Windows 11

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

I'd consider there may be an issue with that Build update and PyInstaller. Some programs don't work well with some updates and uninstalling then reinstalling may help.

This looks like Protected folders issue. Ant ransomware protection that protects from Windows system files too. Unless you're using some replacement for Windows explorer?

In step #3 in the picture in post #11 above, you need to choose whatever language Windows 11 is currently installed... in.
The In-Place upgrade can only "Keep Personal File and Apps" if the language matches.

If Windows 11 is currently installed in... French, then you need to download the ISO in French, etc.
