    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

To be clear, I'm pretty well familiar with the TPM requirements of Windows 11 and have many posts on the subject in this site. I've also pointed out many times one does not need to purchase a TPM module if their BIOS supports firmware TPM (TPM2.0), which most boards after 2014 do.

That said, if you're talking about your Asus X99E-WS USB 3.1 board, while I couldn't find in the owner's manual if your board supports firmware TPM, I do see it supports a socketed TPM chip per page 1-34. Whether it's 2.0 support, I can't say.

But yeah, according to Asus, that X99 WS board isn't Windows 11 ready, so...

Yup. It missed the bus on TPM2. A little funny because it runs a 6 year old CPU just fine. This is why I stated that I shouldn't have to use a module for it. But I would get one if this fixed my TPM issues. I researched that and it looks like this particular system board has fallen through the cracks on TPM2. Modules will work on some boards to make them compliant but not all boards that boast TPM firmware will answer to TPM2. I really don't feel like wasting 20 bucks just to prove Tom's Hardware right. So again, if I want my work station to be compliant with TPM2 I need to replace it.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. Be aware it's not only TPM, but also the processor that can kill compatibility for Windows 11. Both my 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad (I7-7600U) and backup desktop (I7-7700K) are only incompatible due to their processors. Both are TPM compatible 2.0 :sick:

Uh.... I think there's some misunderstandings because firmware TPM (PTT for Intel / fTPM for AMD) IS TPM 2.0 ...

Uh.... I think there's some misunderstandings because firmware TPM (PTT for Intel / fTPM for AMD) IS TPM 2.0 ...

Now this is interesting. Perhaps I misunderstood what I read at Tom's but it seemed quite clear to me at the time that using a TPM module would not solve my issue. Furthermore I read another article that I posted here someplace that warned against assuming that just plugging in a module would fix the problem. My system board uses TPM 1.2 and uses security keys that I can disable or clear. When I ran the Win 11 compatibility check I'm quite sure my issue was TPM. Perhaps I should run it again on Windows 11 and see what it says. lol 😄

So clearly if I am running TPM 1.2 firmware on this unit and Microsoft is saying my system isn't compatable and ASUS is saying that my system board isn't Windows 11 ready... 1.2 does not equate to 2.0.
