OS
Windows 11 Home 23H2
I don't have a password set.

I have set the settings sign in option to "Never"
I have followed the suggestions in How to disable password after resuming from sleep on Windows 10
and various other suggestions.

None of this has worked. Every time I set my screen to sleep, when I wake it there is the signin screen.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Sounds like something has glitched

Try this:

Set a local password, change setings option to require a password on waking pc, then reboot pc.

Then change option to never and remove local password and reboot.

This works great but the user has windows 11 home which lacks group policy. Windows 11 pro or higher feature.

@cereberus post 3 is worth a shot.

Thank you TraderGary for your suggestion, it was something I hadn't tried. Unfortunately it didn't do the trick.
BTW I do have the group policy editor, there is no issue in downloading it, don't know why MS don't include it with the Home edition anyway

Thank you for your response Spunk, but I had already followed the sugestions on that website.

Cerebus, thank you for prompting me to try that again. I had already tried it a couple of times but without the final reboot, so I did it again Interestingly, although I set the option to "always", when I rebooted it had been reset to "never" even though the password was still valid. So far it may have worked, there seemed to be a time lapse before the signin screen kicks in, i.e. if I wake it up quickly it is OK but if I leave it for a while there was the signin screen again! After retrying your suggestion I mhave had the screen off for up to 5 mins and all is OK. Will keep testing at longer intervals with fingers crossed.

Also thank you Andrew for your suggestions, I have a feeling I have seen them but will hold them in reserve in case there is a time limit beyond 5 mins where my issue kicks in.

Finally, another piece of information, I created a second user and that login does not have the problem. So I guess that would be a fall back, but there would be considerable work is switching programs to general use and recreating all my settings and data.

Interesting. So perhaps the user profile is corrupt in some way.

You can manually move over the app data and other files contents from c users documents for example to the new account as long as you don't move the folder itself.

Alternatively, you can also try using this from @FreeBooter :

Andrew, I am concerned that if I transfer my user profile to the new user it will transfer the problem with it. Any comment?

You can just simply manually transfer your files then as I suggested which wouldn't affect anything instead of using the profile backup tool.

Use a Screen Saver instead.
I am using the screen saver to blank the screen when I leave the computer, when I wake it it goes to the signin screen

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I have followed up and tried everything you put forward. But nothing solved the problem, I have now gone to plan B and switched over to the user I created that did not have the problem. Annoying because I like to solve the puzzles that Microsoft throw at me, but there comes a time when one just has to get on with life.

Strange!!!
Did you use a Screen Saver only, without Sleep?
Just moving the mouse should bring you right back to the Desktop!

Yes and that was the problem, it didn't, and nothing I tried sorted it.

The group policy rule worked for me on Windows 11 23H2. For users with Windows 11 Home that don't have the Group Policy editor, they can use the program "PolicyPlus" from github Fleex255/PolicyPlus.

Sorry, it didn't work. I thought the Group Policy Editor setting worked for me, but I was wrong. I've tried other methods to disable the login screen after sleep, but as of now, none of them worked for me.
