Hi,

I work with Windows-11 and i recently use: Icecream Free PDF Editor

All works fine (especially for a free app) but i have just one problem:

I try to select a text-line and want to chance the font of that text
In the left column i see the font-name: Calibre and then i can scroll there to new fonts.
After i choose a new font, the program does not chance the text to that new font but chanced back to the Calibre Font
Can anyone give me a suggestion what i have to do, to chance a text in an another font?
Thanks already

Someone using the same app would have to advise you and I have no way of knowing if anyone here uses it. I can say, on their website, it says the FREE Pdf editor has limitations and one must buy their PRO product to open all the features. Changing the font might be one of the features in the PRO version.

The Icecream-site says: The free-version has all the features and possibilities as the Pro-version, only a watermark-text is added to each page
I had also tested a PRO-version, and in that version the same problem occurs, no text-font can be chanced to another font

I did a short test for you in my testsystem (Windows 11 Home 22H2):
- Installed the program (free version).
- Made a test-pdf (in a Word-like program, printed as pdf) with some lines of text in different fonts, one of them is Calibri, see attachment.
- Loaded that into my testsystem and opened it with Icecream Free PDF Editor.
- Changed the fonts of all the lines.
- Saved it (with watermark).
- There seems to be no problem at all.
- The only problem I have is that the new, edited file has a size of 5.361 kB (5 MB), where the original was 5 kB.
That could not be caused by the watermark only.
I would not like to use a program (and pay for it) that would change the filesize of my edited pdf's from kB to MB's, just because I changed the fonts!
The edited file is too large to attach it here, so sorry, you'll have to believe me on my words that the changing of the fonts was succesfull.
- After the test I deleted the program from my testsytem (restored the old snapshot in VirtualBox).

What the reason is that on your system it does not function, I don't know. Maybe it is something special in the original file. Or something on your system, maybe font-install, is corrupt. That's not to check from distance. Anyway you could try my testdocument to see if in that file you can change the fonts.

Dear Kees,

I downloaded your pdf-file and i tried ti chance some text-lines in another font, but nothing chanced
What i did was: 1. Point to the text-icon on the screen-left
2. Select a part of the text-line to chance in the Pdf-file
3. Select a new font from the list at the screen-left
4. And i pressed enter, nothing chanced

5. See also my attached screenshots

Or should i take other steps to perform the action, please what steps have you done?

Step one I did not need to do, beacause I directly could mark the texts.
Maybe the program opens standard in this mode.
The other steps I did exactly the same as you: marking the text and changing the font in the left panel.
So it must be something in your system or in the installed Icecream Free PDF Editor.
Maybe you could uninsatll the program and try again.
I would not know any further solution.
You could send a message to the makers of the program, who knows they can tell you straight away what causing your problem.

I was able to change the font with LibreOffice Writter . Just saying. I don't know if using another program is an option to you.

I'm not sure if the fonts were embedded though. I'll attach the sample file.

Maybe you missed this line in #4:
- Made a test-pdf (in a Word-like program, printed as pdf) with some lines of text in different fonts, one of them is Calibri, see attachment.

I only attached the original file, and as you can read, that file was (about) 5 kB. Small size indeed.
The file edited by Icecream Free PDF Editor could not be attached, because it's too large.

001165.jpg

Or did you edit the file yourself and want to tell me the size of the resulting file is small? ;-)

Dear Kees,

I have tried some other methods (including uninstall and install again the program) with same results
If i select a text-line from your pdf-file, i see that Icecream in the left-side of the screen, give the correct font-name
Than i can chance the text-color or even the font-size and that works fine
The only thing is that i cannot chance the font-name, that does not chance
I also tried to chance the font in other Apps (for instance: Libroffice, Wondeshare Element, and Pdf-Change Editor) and there i could chance fonts to another font without problems.
So i think the problem is nit on my system but i think it is in the Icecream-app

Works for me. And, the saved changes appear live in Sumatra PDF.
Only thing with the free version is, there's a watermark on every page.
(The page on the left is the original)

I think the problem has to do with a combination of the app and something on your system.
Maybe something in the registry that's different from the system of me (and @Edwin), that has to do with fonts.
We'll never be able to reproduce the environment your system is in..
I also tried to chance the font in other Apps (for instance: Libroffice, Wondeshare Element, and Pdf-Change Editor) and there i could chance fonts to another font without problems.
Why then stick to an app that's not functioning in your system and that you have to pay for if you really would want to use it and you have other programs available that do function?

You could send a message to the makers of the program, who knows they can tell you straight away what causing your problem.
That still is a possibility! But I think the makers will not really help you unless you register.

I did try Icecream Free Photo Editor (because of your message) in a short test but I like "Faststone Image Viewer" (fully free as well)much more. Much more flexible and almost the same (or other) editing facilities for quick editing). One problem I directly noted is that you can't set the Window of the Icecream Photo Editor smaller than almost the whole screen or at least 3/4 of it. As I would like to sometimes have another window beside it, that already is unacceptable for me.
