Just an FYI, I see that ASUS just released new BIOS updates for some MBs that officially support both Win 11 clean and upgrade installs already. Might be worth checking to see if your MB has an update available.

There's a new beta BIOS for my motherboard (Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus), dated 7/22. No mention of Win11 compatibility.

But then, I'd already clean installed 11 (uupdump.net), so I wasn't looking for compatibility.

I wonder what the BIOS updates might offer? Making firmware TPM available?

I checked ASUS for a Win11 BIOS for my x570 motherboard. There was one there yesterday, but it's been "pulled".
It's no longer there, today.
I'm on 3302, currently.
It "was" Version 3602, 20.90 MBytes, (July 2021), and the only description was: Windows 11.

Today, I see this...

Might want to take a wait and see approach with this.

Just an FYI, I see that ASUS just released new BIOS updates for some MBs that officially support both Win 11 clean and upgrade installs already. Might be worth checking to see if your MB has an update available.

They support Windows 11 by enabling PTT in the bios by default on Intel (before it was disabled by default). Probably similar for AMD. Now they can say it is Windows 11 compatible. That is all - there is no need to update the BIOS for Windows 11, it offers nothing new.

Someone reported that they can't disable PTT with the new BIOS - after disabling, a reboot would re-enable it. That could be Asus intent or a bug.

PTT was enabled many BIOS revs before that rev. In fact, PTT was enabled in BETA BIOS revs before some of these MBs was even available.

In my case, PTT was NOT enabled by default after upgrading the BIOS so there must be more of a change than simply flipping that on.

Nope. The only changes that might matter as far as Windows 11 are concerned would be in the PTT or secure boot. These are part of PTT. PTT is part of Intel CSME (aka Intel Management Engine) firmware in the chipset. This firmware is separate from BIOS firmware, but is sometimes updated along with the BIOS. There was no update to these firmware with the new BIOS.

I don't see any BIOS update for your motherboard that claims to support Windows 11 (nor mine anymore) . Apparently Asus has pulled them all.

Well, look at that. It was BIOS version 1007 for my MB and sure enough, it is now gone. The latest shown is now 1001. In the meantime, I already have 1007 installed.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I'd be interested in a BIOS update that would allow me to Enable TPM. I have the latest for my board, Asus Z590 ROG Strix A-Gaming Wifi and thus far cannot enable TPM in the BIOS as the next boot it is back to Disabled.

Did you install a discrete TPM module? If your BIOS does not see a discrete TPM module then you need to enable PTT instead (the firmware equivalent of a TPM). See the BIOS user guide for details.

NOTE: Your BIOS may look a little different. My MB is also a Z590 chipset based ASUS so they should be similar.

I've been in the BIOS many times and enabled TPM or PTT which ever term we wish to use and as stated earlier it will not stick. Upon reboot the BIOS has switched it back to disabled, this likely because I do not have Intel MEI installed which is the first problem I need to solve.

No - not whichever term you wish to use. They are 2 seperate and distinct items. The TPM is a seperate item that you need to purchase and plug into your MB. If you don't install a TPM you will never be able to enable it since it does not exist. PTT is a whole different animal which relies upon your CPU supporting that functionality.

Don't misunderstand - I am not doubting that you checked both individually, I am simply pointing out that there is a difference between the two just to make sure that there is no confusion on the matter.

I'm well aware, since I bought one, that there is a module that can be installed to the motherboard and then enabled, and there is Intel's trust technology, the TT in PTT, enabled in the BIOS without needing a discrete module. There is no confusion on my part, only frustration, but for the sake of others who may become confused, fine we'll keep our terms distinct. That distinction does not help me or others who cannot enable this trust technology in the BIOS, solve the problem. If you know how we can get PTT enabled in the BIOS that would be helpful and we can have that discussion.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
One thing I missed is that there may be some BIOS Windows 11 support (besides changing the default PTT BIOS setting from disabled to enabled) for Direct Storage required.

I've got Rog Strix Z490-A Gaming, latest BIOS a month ago

I have the Z590-A Gaming and just replaced a defective board with another; on the defective one in an effort to resolve the issues with it I updated to the latest BIOS, 0902. Everything appears to work well with the replacement which has Version 0605 so I'll be sticking with it for now.

An Asus employee that is involved with the Motherboards and provides support for MB users on various forums (e.g. providing beta BIOS and BIOS help) said the BIOS were pulled because of an internal disagreement on whether the PTT TPM (Intel boards) or fTPM (AMD boards) should be enabled by default in the BIOS. So no bigee.
