Working with images is a subject that's been an interest since getting a computer 26 years ago. Mostly using vector drawing programs but bitmap too. Here are some. Nothing too clever but they provided a good pastime...

Drawn using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer.

Made using CorelDraw X7 Home & Student.

Restored using Corel Photo-Paint.

I made that laptop tray thing, for someone who was complaining that their laptop got too hot when they used it in bed. :-)

I think the beer bottle is a bit of artistic licence, but hey it's cool.

That's possible. I put the beer bottle in because when that part of the original 300 dpi scan (saved as a .tiff) is zoomed in on, it can be seen there might be a beer bottle there. It was cloned from a definite beer bottle in the photo. If really there, It perhaps should have been faded into the surroundings a little more though.

AqitBip.jpg

I'm not sure of the circumstances but the photo may have been taken either in England or across the channel just before going into active service. My wife's Grandad is in the photo. He survived the war. I wonder how many of the others made it into old age.

Well spotted re. beer bottle - the devil is always in the detail. Cloning it from the other is great as high chance they were drinking same beer LOL.

re. Grandad - Wow - which one was he?

I am guessing from your words, he is no longer with us - there are very few left now as we see at the annual Remembrance Day.

A clock drawn using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer. It was constructed with the aid of a tutorial by Gary Priester. I've followed a couple of tutorials by this Xara artist/expert. Always a painstaking job but interesting to do. The left of the picture partly shows the lines and shapes that went into the clock's construction.

Grandad is second from the left and sitting on the bench. He died when my wife was aged 10, so many years ago.

Thanks geneo - The trouble is that a lot detail has almost disappeared from the original photo, so I had to guess at some parts and fill them in the best I could. It's probably possible to keep improving a photo like that but I had to stop somewhere. :-)

This is another that still took time to do but not so much guesswork was necessary in the detail. As can be seen though, the colours and wallpaper were invented..

I just looked at my online images. I only have the restored versions. would need to dig i my offline storage for the originals. Will do if I get a chance.

Back when i did these, Photoshop had just rudimentary tools for this sort of thing. THey are much better now. So I have some images i didn't finish and probably should revisit now.

Yes, I think the tools for image work are much better now, I have a few programs installed and use them all. Each one has its strong points but for restorations or for finishing photos edited in other programs, I often go back to Corel Photo-Paint. It has so many options on masks, blending etc. I can't justify buying the full version for the amount I'd use it but version X7 Home & Student works pretty well.

Some online tools that perform various actions are good too. For instance, removing a photo's background. What used to take hours in an installed program, an online tool might successfully do in seconds.
