Improve your PC gaming experience with efficiency mode

In MS Edge -> Settings -> System & Performance there is an option called "Improve your PC gaming experience with efficiency mode"

I'm playing a browser game in MS Edge and wondering if changing this option applies only to desktop games or also to those games which you play in the web browser?

Hi,
There is no improvement in game play performance at all.
It's just that Edge stops running or reduces its footprint while you are playing games, therefore increasing resources available for that game.

I understand, but does this apply only to standard desktop games or also to web based games?
You said MS Edge reduces it's footprint, therefore it can't apply to games running in Edge itself as that would make no sense right?

You are right. You can't have it both ways. Edge is either running or not.
But I think Edge puts some tabs & apps to sleep in that case, reducing its need for resources.
The game would theoretically perform better.
In a system with more than 32 GB of RAM and a solid GPU, I doubt it would make a difference.

Thank you very much, in the mean time I've been searching online about "windows efficiency mode" and noticed that some tabs in MS edge run in efficiency mode while other don't (visible in task manager after expanding MS edge entry)

I'll also experiment with that because background things named like "renderer" run in efficiency mode so this might perhaps have an impact of game performance.

That setting would not have any effect on desktop games, It's for browser games i have few videos for configuring Windows 11 for better gaming experience i just need to know what performance gain you want when playing games.

"Efficiency mode" is MS's current marketing drive to greenwash Windows by de-prioritizing process threads. We used to want Windows to run fastest, now MS is encouraging us to go slow for the planet.
