Inactive Title Bar in Windows 11

How to Change Color of Inactive Title Bar in Windows11 ?
Have seen solutions for Windows10 , but they dont work in Windows11.............

This works on Windows 11....



Go to...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

Create here a new 32-bit DWORD value named AccentColorInactive.
For MY computer, I set the value at: Hex 484848
Probably have to Reboot or Restart Explorer... I don't remember.










This is from Windows 11...


In Personalization > Color... these are the settings I used.



On Win 10 and 11, I use the default theme.

If you are using a theme, any colors designed within the theme are the colors used.

Yep. I also used the Windows 10 directions.

Dont understand , it does not work at all !
The color of the inactive title bar does not change ...............
Tried several settings , no luck , so far..........

I only see ONE title bar there?
You need two windows open, to see two title bars.
I have no idea if Inactive Title Bar color, works for "Tabs". Probably not.

Try with two other windows. Like... Registry Editor and Outlook, maybe.
Or any two windows that "have" Title Bars, and don't use tabs.












We set the Inactive Title Bar color in the Registry, and we set the Active Title Bar color, here...





And neither color seems to work on the "Settings" page's Title Bars.

The "Tabs" in File Explorer. I disabled the Tabs in MY File Explorer.
In that pic you posted... I only see ONE window open on your desktop... File Explorer (ThisPC).

So, I assumed that when you said the Inactive Title Bar color setting didn't work, it was because you needed to open another program window, to be able to see it.

Like I did in those pics I posted.


Like this...

1. Open a program window.
2. Then open another program window as well.
3. NOW, you should be able to see the different color Title Bars.

The program window "in front" will be the Active window.
The one "in back", will be the Inactive window.


In this pic the Anyburn window is in front and is the Active window.
The Registry Editor window is behind the Anyburn window, so it is the Inactive window.



I have the Active Title Bar color set to light grey, and the Inactive Title Bar color set to dark grey.





Here... this may be easier to see...

All my programs are opening with a bleu title bar , when opening a second program , the first one changes into a white title bar , clicking on the first one again it becomes bleu again .

Using Open-Shell and StartAllBack ( this one for the nice blue contextmenu-items , you choose ) .
All fine , but the inactive Title bar ( see my picture ) is ugly , light-grey .
Would be very nice , if we could give it a nice light-blue color !

That's the problem.
I am NOT using Open Shell or StartAllBack.
I think they are affecting the color settings. There must be a conflict.

I only use Winaero Tweaker, and only use a few settings in that program.

I think you will need to wait for someone who does use Open Shell or StartAllBack.
My Windows 11 Home, is really basic. It's almost like the way it comes out of the box.

Think you are right !
Most of these programs are affecting the color system .
Though , these two programs are too important for me , wont uninstall them , only for the unimportant color of this title bar.
Maybe other solution , or someone using the same programs and can change color still ?

I don't know.
There might be a way to do it, but I don't know what it is.

Maybe change the topic title to... Change Title Bar colors with Open Shell or StartAllBack.

Just a guess. Maybe there is a setting in Open Shell or StartAllBack that you can turn off, that will allow the Title bar colors to work?

My guess is that Open Shell is the cause of the problem.
You might want to try...
Export the Open Shell settings, then uninstall it, and see if the Inactive Title bar color starts to work.

Change Title Bar colors with Open Shell or StartAllBack. ...........just changed the Win11 title bar to the one from Win10 . Changed it with StartAllBack .
Now I can change ugly Win11-grey to a nice looking color .
btw ; this Win10 title bar is not so bad at all , thinking of keeping it in my latest Win11 !

Very nice tool this StartAllBack !
It gave us a nice looking context-menu also ;

Just had to uninstall older version of StartAllBack , this for installing the latest version .
So, after uninstalling StartAllBack completely , I applied this reg-key again and gave it a color .
After the reboot NO COLOR still on the inactive title bar !
This proves that StartAllBack does not interfere in these colors ...............
Maybe Open Shell does however ! (?)

In the first place..., when using SAB, don't use the fecking W11 Command Bar!

Yes , tried them all with SAB !
Thinking of using the Win10-version , but have to learn to deal with it again .........
May I ask you ( for you are an expert) , which version you use in Win11 ( 7 or 10 ) ?

I use W7 style, I find it looks the cleanest...



I keep Active and Inactive colors the same...

Does not work on my Win11-rig !
Just cant change the color of the inactive title bar , no matter what I do !
Only solution ( Im using now) is in the StartAllBack choosing for Win10 Explorer option.
Im having now all the same titlebar colors ( nice blue ) , StartAllBack is not the cullprit ( tested by uninstalling , nothing chanced), I think its OpenShell which wont allow us to chance color of inactive titlebar.............
