Hello,

I am running Windows 11 Pro 22H2 and I have an issue that I just cant fathom out.

Everything runs perfectly when this laptop is plugged in but when I unplug it one app which is the only reason I have this laptop disconnects from the internet.

This was brand new 3 days ago, fully updated. I have used task manager and watched the wifi and I can see the send at next to zero and the receive at around 25-50kbps while the app is running, when I unplug it this drops to zero. When I plug it back in it starts working again.

Now I have tested this while watching a youtube video, netflix, download speed test etc none of this is effected by unplugging the laptop. It all works perfectly. Only this one app disconnects and even more strangely if I unplug it while netflix youtube etc is playing and using data this app still loses its connection while everything else is fine.

Now on Monday (3 days ago) this was disconnecting (@100% battery), yesterday it was working fine (@100% battery down to 23% before I plugged it in again) and today @100% battery it is not working again.

This app trading platform streams stock market data and uses 0.5% CPU and around 35mb of ram. I run it on a laptop so if there is a power failure I will still have data flow. I have also installed a second trading platform and this exhibits the exact same behaviour when unplugged. One is written in C++ and the other .net using different data feeds and both these platforms work perfectly on every other computer under the sun and this also worked perfectly yesterday. Nothing has changed, not one setting on the trading platform or Windows.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have spent the entire day today and on Monday trying to figure this out and I can not even find a post anywhere online with the same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated =]

Good to have you on the forum. What is the app? Per your above statement, IMO it narrows it down to the app, not a fault with your laptop. If it was working yesterday, but not today, find out what happened in between...windows update, app update.

Hi there! Good to be here =]

The program is Sierra Chart, and the second trading platform I installed is Ninjatrader. Same problem for both of them.

SC was installed on Monday after all OS updates were performed on the new laptop. It kept disconnecting, yesterday I reinstalled it and it worked fine, today it is back to disconnecting. Same version of SC, no updates on either the platform or Windows since Monday morning. Also it does the same with NT which is an entirely different platform. SC is a renowned professional trading platform, I have never known or heard of it once crash or cause a problem in 10 years on any system.

I was thinking this is some sort of power management issue with 3rd party software that is not from MS store/MS?

Are you talking about disconnections that are happening
- whilst your display is still on
or
- when your Power options turn the display off?

Hi,

Yes while the computer is on, the screen is on etc.

Because it is a trading station it is set up so nothing ever turns off unless I shut it down.

The only issue is both trading platforms instantly cease to receive data when I unplug the laptop. Everything else works perfectly. There is no interruptions to net when testing by watching youtube, netflix or doing a net speed test when I unplug it, just these 2 programs.

In fact I have just tested an ftp with WINscp that also loses data when unplugged?

I have now realised that nothing I have installed gets any data when this laptop is unplugged, yet everything part of Win 11 works fine and Netflix that I dloaded to test the connection from MS store also works?

I seem to recall that there are individual power settings for installed apps. Maybe try settings - apps - installed apps -, and click on the three dots to the right of 'sierra chart' and choose advanced settings. Then explore the options there. Maybe they are set to low energy use when on battery?

Hi,

I have done all of that. There is no installed app for SC, it doesn't use Windows registry in any way for stability and WINscp doesnt have an option for advanced options. I think advanced options are only available if its part of windows or from MS store.

See if changing to high performance power plan makes any difference. Know that it will drain the battery faster.

OMG folks I have just figured it out I think!

Once I realised nothing I installed was getting data when unplugged I did a full network configuration reset.

Now it all seems to be working!

This has done my head in these last few days as needing battery backup is essential doing what I do.

Thanks for the input all and I hope this helps anyone with similar problem...

Unless you see me back here tomorrow begging for help again =]

Welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- Tutorials are also listed at Tutorials - there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
