Is response to custom hotkeys much slower on 11 than 10?

I've set a number of custom hotkey combinations (Ctrl+Alt+X or Ctrl+Shift+X) for launching apps and opening folders, and they all seem to me to take three to five seconds to get the response -- the app appears or the folder shows up open in File Explorer. Even a simple shortcut to Notepad has this noticeable delay in execution.

Just wondering whether this is W11 behavior. I use a toolbar program in W10, and it lets me use more key combos than native Windows allows (so, for instance, I have a lot of Ctrl+Winkey+X shortcuts on 10). But all my hotkey combos on W10 (native and toolbar) work pretty much instantly. In W11, not so much.

Have you tried any custom hotkeys on W11, and if so, was there a delay in execution?

Yes, I have the same problem and have questioned it before.
As with other things that I reported, it went unfixed.
I guess Microsoft didn't think it was important enough.

Any way, thx for confirming my suspicion @ the delay. Both my 11s do it -- one compliant and one not -- and none of my 10s do it at all.

I'm a touch typist and use a lot of hot keys. They all seem as fast as with any previous OS, but then I just use the hot keys built-in to Windows.

I'll have to take a look at apps that add custom hotkeys. What app do you use?

My question for this thread deals only with custom-made hotkey combinations. The native Windows hotkeys work just as well on 11 as on 10, I agree.

All of my W11 custom hotkeys are made without any app. If you create a shortcut to the .exe of one of your programs, then right-click the shortcut and choose Properties, you'll find a space with "None" in it, and the words "Shortcut key:" beside it. If you press Ctrl and Alt, you'll see them in that space, and you then just type a letter or number or F-key of your choice, and click Apply and OK. Now you have a custom-made hotkey.

One caveat: if your choice is already in use by Windows, the space won't accept your choice of letter or number.

Thanks Dan! That's something new for me! I've always done my most used apps by lining them up on the task bar. For example I place Edge as the first icon, Outlook as the second icon, OneNote as the third icon, etc.

Then my keyboard shortcuts to my most used apps are:

Windows Key + 1 = Edge
Windows Key + 2 = Outlook
Windows Key + 3 = OneNote
etc.

I don't know.

Just to clarify what a custom keyboard shortcut key is.
Here is one for Calculator for an example.
