According to what I read that update shouldn't be trying to automatically install. It's now being offered to one of my Win11s so am doing some reading about it. As to whether it's needed will depend upon what will affect my computers. I'm not a gamer so some things may not be important.

As I told you in the other thread you have open about this same windows update, after this cumulative update failed for me, at every boot I also went into the "applying updates" loop. Mine would never let me log in. I renamed software distribution using a Linux distro but that did not work. The only solution that worked for me was to restore an image.

I was finally able to get this update installed. After restoring the image, sfc /scannow found and fixed a corrupt bluetooth driver. I then reset windows update using this procedure. Reset Windows Update in Windows 11 Tutorial
before manually downloading the update from here Microsoft Update Catalog . After applying it, I no longer went into the applying updates loop as before.

did not work I got some updates were not installed.
If you have done a sfc without finding any corrupt files, I would suggest you wait until patch Tuesday for July to see if the the monthly update will apply to your system. If it doesn't, the only thing I can suggest further would be a repair install. Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

The only thing is that crazy update loop is aggravating, but at least yours eventually lets you log in. Mine wouldn't.

Traditionally the second Tuesday of the month has been Patch Tuesday or scheduled updates but there may be unscheduled ones.

There's also a DISM test one can do.

will this delete the apps I installed
No it won't. I suggest to make a backup for insurance.

One more thing. Try turning off any and all third party antivirus/antimalware and then trying the troublesome update again.
To recap here's what I did that finally worked for me:
1. Restored image to get out of the update loop
2. run sfc /scannow until it ran clean-restart
3. manually downloaded update from MS Update catalog
4. turned off antivirus (in my case, Malwarebytes)
5. ran .bat file as administrator to reset windows update- restart
6. make sure antivirus is still off
7. manually applied update

I don't know if turning it off is what made the difference in the update applying. I just did it anyway.

I wrote about my woes with this update here

When I was trying to resolve this the other day, SFC & DISM simply changed the error code for me from failing with 0x8000FFFF on my first attempt, to 0x080073701 after completing SFC/DISM & attempting to update again. The next thing I tried was the bat file. It reached the end & requested any key to restart, and on boot up I still couldn't get it to install. Same error 0x080073701. From my reading, the fix for this error particular error code is usually SFC followed by DISM Restore health, but further SFC/DISM isn't finding any issues or changing the outcome.

So I just followed your steps @glasskuter as I run Malwarebytes Pro too. Switching MBAM off was actually the only thing I hadn't tried already. I had no image to restore too, so I couldn't do that bit. I made sure when I followed your steps that MBAM was thoroughly disabled for the whole process. I had every shield off, & the self protection module was disabled, as well as MBAM launching on start up.

Sadly this didn't work. At the end of the installation windows it said KB5014668 was not installed.

As I mentioned in the other post, in my installed updates in the Control Panel, it shows Servicing Stack 10.0.22000.761 got installed on the 25th June, so one part of the update worked, just not the second part. I do wonder if it being partially updated is what's stopping it now. Unfortunately you can't uninstall SSUs. If I don't have any luck when the non-preview version comes on Patch Tuesday, I may have to do a repair of Windows.

For those of you trying to install this update, I checked the feedback hub and you are not alone. Considering it's an optional update, many won't try to install it and if they do won't report on the feedback hub, I would say the issue is more widespread.

I just installed this today. Seems OK.
I don't use Windows Defender... I use Bitdefender Interenet Security (AV and firewall).

Let's see... I updated Windows 11, Firefox, Bitdefender, Winaero Tweaker and imported my latest bookmarks.
Made sure that MS Links 2003 (golf), still worked.
So it's time to make a new backup.
