Is there an alternative to TaskbarGroups, to group icons on the taskbar?

With TaskbarGroups, you can organize icons into subfolders on the taskbar. When you click on a group icon, a small window opens right above the icon with whatever icons you've grouped in there. It's a good way to declutter and organize the taskbar if you've got lots of programs on it.

TaskbarGroups is unfortunately not under active development. Quite a few features are not supported. Like dragging icons on the taskbar into a group, adding Store apps or URL shortcuts.

Are there any alternatives to TaskbarGroups that support those features?

You can drag and drop programs on the group. You cannot put .net programs on it because an unhandled .net error pops up.

An alternative is linkbar, which allows you to have a second row for icon overflow.

Two things I've found:

.Net programs need the executable dragged and dropped from their file location in the C:/ folder.

Apps cannot be opened by TaskbarGroups. You have to create a desktop shortcut and save them to a folder. That folder can then be moved from the desktop to a place in your personal folder. Mine is in Documents.

Now you can pin the apps in the folder to a taskbar group like you can with classic 32 bit programs.
