Windows 11
Just got my new Windows 11 computer and when I try to get Office running it tells me that it cannot find me. I bought Office 2013 back in 2014 so am I just out of luck or is there someone who can recognize that I purchased Office 2013 and have the email with Product Key? Since it is impossible to talk with anyone in large organizations I have a feeling that the answer is the former.

Thanks -

george

It still works locally installed.
I don't use it currently but Office 2013 ran just fine without the login/cloud stuff.

I believe the 2013 version is out of support, gets no security updates anymore but the product is still functional on a local or offline PC.

Alas, I just spoke with someone who explained that the version I purchased was specific to my computer. So when my computer died so did Word and Excel. I'll need to find an alternative.

I'm in the same boat unfortunately.
I cannot activate it on new hardware.
But it still runs on W11, to answer that part of the question.

There are quite a few alternatives to Office and most are available for Free as they are Open source. If you share work on documents with someone else then you may find you have to be careful if exact positioning is essential but for normal use for your own purposes these clones are fine.

A few to take a look at to see what suits you best Free Alternatives to Microsoft Word

WPS office is supposedly the closest to the older Microsoft office versions but one of the others you may find more to your liking, and for free you can try a few to find the perfect match for you

Thanks for the info. My needs for Word and Excel are very minor, so I need very little. I have downloaded LibreOffice and will see how that works. I have a feeling that it will do just fine for my purposes.

Cheers -

I used Office 2003 up to last year, and it worked pretty well, but switched those systems to Libre Office. I still have Office 2010 installed and working on one system.

Good point.
LibreOffice handles the MS Office file formats quite well.
The installation is pretty compact and uses much less drive space.

I now use its own 'open xml' default formats more and more and never encountered any issues.

If you're into Excel sheets you may find that LibreOffice Calc is better at importing and exporting between formats and locale formatting and encoding.

Check SoftMaker Office, or FreeOffice, the free version. It´s better than LibreOffice as a direct replacement of MS Office. For one thing, nicer and more modern UI.

@davewin11 Good plan, I bought mine cheap and will keep it for as long as possible as it does everything I need. As far as I know you cannot upgrade you have to uninstall the old version first, so you loose all your settings

Using MS Office since it came out in W7/8/10 and now in W11. My most important part now is Microsoft Publisher and in the past also used Excel and Power point, Beside Word those and nothing else is installed.

I use Office 2013 Pro Plus and intend to stick with it until it drops as it includes Access which doesn't have a clone AFAIK.
Actually, I am wrong about Access. LibreOffice has Base which apparently opens Access DBs but, on checking, only uses an old type of structure

Yep still use office 2007
Me too. And mine is an old 32 bit version. Over the years, I bet I've moved its license to a dozen computers. It always works and does everything I need. I'm not as impressed with 365 as much as a lot of people are. I save everything to my computer rather than the cloud. Only use the cloud if I want to share something with someone and that's seldom, but when I do I use Google Drive. In the past, I have had a lot of trouble with onedrive syncing so I finally gave up on onedrive. I heard that MS was coming out with a new installable version of Office this next year.

Did just pick up a couple office 2016 plus keys very cheap
Nice.
To what use the 2016 keys if version 2007 still runs as the boss there?
Collector's items, maybe.
