I have windows 11 version 21H2 and when i attempt to change the pc name is refuses it. I only typed ENVYLAPTOP that's all any ideas please

sorry it says pc name invalid.

I have tried on power shell and getting access denied but i am the administrator no idea at all

Are you trying to rename Microsoft account?

Change you username from Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Change Your Name

I just renamed mine and all I had to do was bring up the settings and it was on system. The top has a rename option.. I chose to rename and all done.. it did require a restart.

Where are you trying to change the PC name? You should be able to change it by clicking on Start > Settings > System > About > Rename this PC.

The name of my desktop PC uses capitals, numbers and a - in the middle. I might be wrong, but I think that you can't use spaces.

Correct no spaces and certain characters. I never tired a name in all caps before so threw that out as I see nothing else wrong with his attempted name. One of mine for example is named Resident-Alien and the other is named Space-Debris.

That's why we need more info. They might be trying to change the name of something other than the computer name.

I generally name mine for the make and/or model of PC (or VM for a virtual machine) and, if there's enough room, the Windows that's installed. Saves a lot of confusion if/when I have a lot of them turned on at the same time.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.
